You mean this?

"And I'd rather ride with 20-something racers than slow as ***** old guys any day of the week."

Why diginfy a d***head like that with a response?

I don't even need to look at the thread.

I would rather that the poster ride with 20-something racers too...

Louis 05-22-08 09:40 AM

I recall saying some pretty stupid things, myself, when I was much younger, and feeling completely invulnerable well into my 50's.

+1 Ride with who you want to ride with. Seems simple enough to me.

I have regular ride partners who are in their 50s and some in their 20s. No one in either group has to ride with me, nor do I have to ride with them.

The 20-somethings I ride with, BTW, are all racers. They think it's awesome that I can hang with them.

Why be bothered? Seems pretty civil to me, even though a few of us seem to have tried to stir up something. I see more inane comments in 50+ about the Road forum than I do in the Road forum about 50+.

Hey, I never frequent the road forum, so why are they talking about me there?

The only time I'm riding with a 20-something racer is in those couple of seconds it takes them to zoom past me.

So who cares? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to ride with him either. Looks like a win/win to me. Why would anybody want to turn that into an argument?

+1

The Road forum is a great source of humor, occasional advice. There can be some harshness towards newbies, especially toward folks who don't do any research before asking a question. But a lot of the humor is self-deprecating.

JTrav says: If they're ranting about us at least they think we're worth the powder it would take to blow us to hell. Jtrav remembers when women used to feel that way about Jtrav.

BluesDawg 05-22-08 10:31 AM

As Bill Murray's character, Tripper, said in Meatballs,
" And even if we win, if we win, HAH! Even if we play so far above our heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if God in Heaven above points his hand at our side of the field; even if every man woman and child joined hands together and prayed for us to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from Mohawk because they've got all the money! It just doesn't matter if we win or if we lose. IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!"

Pcad is proud.

Weak Link is Pueking.

That is all.

That thread and the replies are really mild for the road forum guys. Its just the internet is all. If I cannot be seen in person I can say all kinds of dumb things. Seems as if Pcad and Chipcom were trying to tell them that 50+ can be some fierce riders. Heck, just sluff it off.:roflmao2:

If you come near JTrav's bike with WD40, I will fight you.

DnvrFox 05-22-08 11:15 AM

I thought their reaction to my Pcad welcoming thread was pretty mild and typical of the Road Forum. It took them only about 5 posts to get completely off-topic, which is about the same as for the 50+ Forum.

Allegheny Jet 05-22-08 11:32 AM

I visit both forums for different reasons. The 50+ site has people my age with the same issues going on in our lives and the Road Forum has people who ride and race like me. The roadies speak a different tune which is to be expected just as eating pie at the end of a long ride is to be expected for the 50+ crowd.

Why dignify a statement like that with a response?

Yes. Because we all know that time will change that poster's mind without us lifting a finger. Nothing needs to be done.

But we have a better excuse!

SaiKaiTai 05-22-08 01:24 PM

Sure, the Road Cycling crowd is OK... and their whole "cock of the walk" thing is pretty entertaining.
Such macho strutting about and posturing. I don't know that I've ever seen such a group so full of themselves. It's like eternal high school. Some of them will get over it and some won't.
Even if some -most?- of it is in jest, it's kind of sad that it seems so important to them

It has been few months now since the Road Fourm vs. the Recumbent Forum battle. I think the roadies are baiting this forum to sharpen up their skills before counter attacking their true enemy over on the Recumbent Forum.:D

Given the comparative sizes of the forums, us recumbent riders better get prepared by watching 300. :thumb:

I believe pcad answered that one. Personally, riding with some 50+ers would not be an option for him. I might enjoy having him try, though. He'd probably be one of those whiners who complain that they can't get a draft behind me.

We are what we are, 50+ers who like cycling. Our outspoken friend is quite free to associate with whomever he chooses. It seems a fact of life on this planet that one is provided the opportunity to take offence based on comments aimed at whatever characteristic one happens to possess: age, sex, sexual orientation, hair color, race, cultural heritage, party affiliation, etc. Name a human characteristic and somewhere there’s a blow-hard with an offensive comment about it. I find (in my 50+ years) that working to render the stings irrelevant contributes mightily to serenity. Man this too deep; think I’ll go for a ride. Ciao!!

As I think Shakespeare wrote, "It's a shame that youth is wasted on the young." I come from a line of VERY old people. My grandmother was 108 and mean as a snake. My great grandmother died at 96 when she climbed a ladder and stole her neighbor's green plums. She ate them and washed them down with buttermilk. They said she died of acute indigestion.

Me********************???I'm going at 120 years old, so I've just reached middle age at 61. I'm going to be riding my bicycle down Hwy 82 chasing a good looking woman popping a viagra about every ten minutes yelling out, "Just wait till I catch you, Honey," when an 18 wheeler instantly flattens me.

The undertaker isn't going to be able to wipe the smile off my face and they are going to have to build a dome on the casket. Now, I wonder how many of those young hammerheads will be around then!!:crash::speedy::cheers:

ps: aren't all the new smileys neat?
