water bottle alert
Tuesday legislation was introduced in Congress to ban the use of Bisphenol A in all drinking bottles. Unfortunately Bisphenol A is found in all number "7" plastic water bottles such as the Eddie Bauer bottles being sold at Target. You may want to check whether your water bottle is made of number 7 plastic. Safe biking. Hotwired in Milwaukee

Mine has a "4" as well in the center of the recycle symbol. Does that number tell us what kind of plastic the bottle is made of?

As far as I know that stuff is only in the hard plastic bottles - that nice transparent Lexan stuff. Here in Canada MEC pulled Lexan water bottles off the shelves as a precaution several months ago. As far as I know, bike water bottles don't have the chemical in them. I've switched my Nalgene/Lexan hiking water bottles for stainless steel ones which are very nice.

Yep another important use of our Legislator's time. Steroids in baseball, secret taping of the opponents signals in the NFL. The whole Congress is a big joke. Oil soars in price and Congress energy policy is to threaten to sue OPEC.

Tell you what.
We got rid of all the #7 bottles. We had a mess of baby bottles that my OCD daughter promptly disposed of.
I wanted two of the new Camelbak Podium bottles. No store in the Louisville area carries them, so I special ordered two from my LBS. They contacted me an hour ago and said they could only get one in.
WTF?

Reading almost everything I could it seems as if #4 bottles are ok. But it also said our number one sorce for Bisphenol A is canned food. Do I have to give up soup? At my age I don't believe the chances of that effecting my DNA are very high.

The various polyethylenes are used for products such as plastic shopping bags, freezer bags, stretch wrap, vegetable bags, bottles, milk jugs etc.

FWIW, Polar insulated bottles are BPA free... according to their website.

Whatever it is that gave the safety nazis the heebee jeebees, it's not poisonous, only similar in composition to estrogen.
I'm post-pubescent (although it could be argued I'm not post-adolescent), I'm not pregnant, nor am I lactating. I already had old guy man boobs before I bought Nalgene bottles, so it's no big deal for me.
Besides, I don't leave water in them for longer than a ride to begin with. The leaching everyone's so concerned with takes days.
Waiting for the next hullabaloo...

Although I know you're joking, I don't think they would advertise that if it weren't true. Do you?
I was initially concerned that I would have to give up my beloved insulated bottles, until I read that on their website.
