    No RAAM threads this year?

Haven't seen any mention of the race, either here or in the road forum. My clubmate David Jones is 2000 miles in, so far, looking to better his record setting time from last year. He's 62 this year!

I caught the start of the two previous RAAMs, but I missed the latest one. Good luck to Mr. Jones. (Does anyone ever call him "Davey"?)

People say that, but I've not heard anyone call him "Davey" on a ride, but when riding, he's pretty focused on what he's doing. We always joke that long after our ride, shower, and dinner, he's still out there on his bike. I don't know how many hours he puts in to get ready for RAAM, but it's a lot.

They were going through the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri on Saturday. There was a checkpoint at a quikee mart we stopped at on the way home. As we drove we saw three or four of the leaders. That's a seriously long race to wear a TT helmet in, isn't it? But since the guy was like the third one we saw, who am I to question?
It's all downhill from here. Except the parts that are uphill.

Well, it is a 3000 mile TT!

That's because he can't find his locker.

John Schlitter is right behind David Jones, seeking to become the first to complete RAAM solo on a recumbent. Good luck to them both.

They told me it's ok to post mileage over in the commuting forum, so you'll probably find me there these days.

David Jones and John Schlitter have both finished! David beat his last years time by over 20 hours, and I think John is the first solo 'bent rider to finish? David's niece has been sending reports to us, and she said he was actually falling asleep on the bike early today, and had to be forced to take some sleep! Seems that once you get to 62, you can't stay awake for a little bike ride. Here's John.

Yep, John Schiltter became the first to finish RAAM solo on a 'bent, and was the first in of all the 50+ solo riders. He had his troubles the next to last day though, falling asleep and crashing. A big congrats to all the finishers!
