Greetings,
My name is Burr and I’m a new guy to the list and the over 50 group.

I’m 66 and a “under control” diabetic. I have a home in Red Mountain Ca and a home in Guiguinto Bulacan, The Philippines. I live in the Philippines most of the time and I shipped three of my bikes over here. I also shipped my weight lifting weights and squat rack. I owned a telephone/network and sound systems company in Ontario Ca. for 30 years. My wife manages a bank here so I have lots of time to lift and cycle. I cycle on a closed area where there are very few cars so it’s safe.

Now you know about me!

I have been lifting three days a week MWF but I am going to cycle MWF and lift Tue-Thu starting today, it’s Monday evening here.

I'm 66 and I'm buff and I can stay this way with only two workouts a
week!
At the same time I need the Cardio so I have three hard rides a week.

When I lift my heart rate is about 90 with 5 minutes to 55, which is great.
When I cycle my heart rate is around 110 to 135 with recovery to 60 in about
ten minutes.
My threshold is 83 so I need to stay above 83 for 22 minutes. I can ride my
cycling route for 30 minutes at a 66 cadence and my heart rate says above
100 and this is great.

SO, more cycling and only two days to stay hard with lifting BUT, I push
some big weights with four sets.

If I want to ride with the nuts then I can add Saturday, as I want like with
"working" friends.

I would like to find sometime to do some Yoga; I enjoy and like the
pull. Pilates kills me but maybe I can get a routine made-up that I would
enjoy.

If anyone has any thoughts on the heart rate thing please feel free to share your thoughts.

Welcome!

Sounds like a great regimen. I'm sure you could kick my glutes without difficulty.

I'm thinking that once a week you should put masking tape over the cyclometer, print a bike route for somewhere you've never riden, and head out to the great Unknown. Introduce some anarchy into the routine.

Welcome aboard ------ those are great numbers and will be diffucult to improve on. For some really intense and effective cardio I recommend climbing. Nothing quite like it. Lp

I would love to BUT.
Over here it is wall to wall cars, trucks and motorcycles and there is no law enforcement. So I have to ride in the cemetery but with my iPod I can ride for ever with my mind a million miles away. Sometimes I find I have done two or three laps and didn't know it. (Self-Inflicted-Hypnosis)

Also 66 y/o never done the heart rate thing. I just pedal.
4900 miles so far this year on a Felt F-80 Road Bike.

When I was in Ridgecrest I had a 28 mile route and a 39 mile route with some big climbs and some great "DOWN HILLS" that went on for miles

Must be people out there wondering who that guy is who bikes through the cemetary all the time. They probably figure you're the groundskeeper and the budget doesn't allow for gas for a motor vehicle.

Welcome Burr. I'm no where near as regimented or "in control" of my
daily (?) exercise as you are. I commute to work four days/week, 12 hr.
shifts, and I get in some leisure rides.

I think you'll like this group, we seem united through diversity. Some are serious
cyclists, some racers, some just tool about every so often......but we all have
a pasion for bicycles.

I think Ridgecrest has the highest ride to work rating in the US.

Nice to meet you Burr. So you were a cable dog? Been in CATV and related fields 28 years. When were you in Ridgecrest? I used to work at China Lake on occasion 92-94.
