No excuses
I haven't ridden at all in the past few weeks, for a million cheap excuses. But I got a new pair of shoes, and new Ergon grips, both ready to go. Last night I was feeling pretty low, my work future is uncertin, my wife was dealing with a personal issue, and I was unavailable to help, my 17 yo son takes his driving test next week, I don't thinks he's ready. I'm feeling like an over stuffed sausage, etc, etc. My mind was a mess.
Last night, I knew I needed to ride, but was feeling weary and could have easily sat down in front of the TV. But I forced myself to ride, I had run out of excuses to not ride.
Only 10 miles, my butt hurt, my legs hurt, I was huffing and puffing like a broken steam engine up the smallest rise, my balance was off.
It don't think I ever felt so good on the bike.

New bike swaag can have medicinal qualities. Keep riding and the time spent will have give you the oppurtunity to sort out or forget the issues you are facing. Good luck and keep hammering.

Been there. In fact today's shaping up to be a day that will "require" a ride to maintain any semblance of mental health.

See if you can't get your son and wife to ride with you--make it a family afair and everything will look brighter.

Any time I get on my bike, I consider it to be a moral victory. It's almost always therapeutic, too.

Some days I find it a mental challenge to not make excuses and ride. However with a mile after the start I feel great. The only exception to that is if I have been riding too much and then the fatigue just doesn't go away. This year I tried a different strategy and so far it has worked - in July I laid out a training schedule that lasts through Mid Sept - all the events and club rides and all the other rides, each day and what the goal for that day should be. I have made slight modifications as work travel has changed things and actually ended up riding more on some days if friends wanted to ride with me. This has not been a rigid plan but a flexible one with two days off the bike per week.
Keep at it - the hardest part is throwing you leg over the top tube.

Keep on sloggin' dude! Same here, I'm just waiting for the spousal unit to return from the store, and I'm heading out to sweat, pant, and cuss awhile myself. Got a new stem for my road bike, changed seat position, and it feels like a completely different bike. I can't wait for it to beat me down again! Ha Ha!
