My New Nickname

On the club ride today, a riding buddy said, "From now on, I'm calling you the 'Cadence Italian.' He meant that while the pace may go up or down, my speed doesn't seem to vary much, that sometimes I'm off the back, sometimes I'm near the front, but I'm always hanging around somewhere, seemingly just spinning along. Oh, yeah, and I've got an Italian last name.

I love the moniker and the concept, but what he doesn't know and what I'm not gonna tell him, is that half the the time, I'm not spinning. I'm hammering like hell just to stay in contact.

To me, you are now Fixed Travis.

Ouch. Now that sounds painful.

I've told the kids on my school bus that my nickname is "Your Majesty". Some of them actually use it. I like that.

Our group has nicknames only when there are two riders with the same name. Hence: Elder John (77) and Three Spoke John (he doesn't even have his 3-spoke wheels anymore). Bob and New Bob. Brenda and Brenda (wait. Why doesn't one of them have a nickname?)

I was always known for my smooth spin when I was a club rider. These days, although my spin is still smooth, it has slowed a bit and I'm no longer affiliated with any clubs.

I don't have an Italian last name but I DO have an Italian jersey. :p
