Pirate Party Room

Go away. I'm trying to clean the place up for the 19th. You're tracking in dirt, and I just washed the floors.

Now to prepare the food:

Hard Tack Recipe
2 cups of flour
1/2 to 3/4 cup water
6 pinches of salt
1 tablespoon of shortening (optional)

Mix all the ingredients into a batter and press onto a cookie sheet to a thickness of inch.
Bake in a preheated oven at 400F (205C) for one hour.
Remove from oven, cut dough into 3-inch squares, and punch four rows of holes, four holes per row into the dough (a fork works nicely).
Flip the crackers and return to the oven for another half hour.

Some recipes also recommend a second baking at 250F (120C) to thoroughly dry out the bread.

"Bone Soup"
Life at Sea was difficult so "Pirate Bone Soup" was made from anything and everything from animal bones, fish bones to even bone and flesh from rats that were living aboard the ships when rations were low. In the Caribbean, they also caught turtle for fresh meat which was sometimes added to soups.

Here's what you need
A pot full of any kind of bones will do (beef, chicken, pork)
A miscellaneous mix would be great.
Add your favorite vegetables and potatoes.
You know.... just cook up your favorite pot of soup but make absolutely sure its packed full of bones.
Add your favorite herbs and spices.
Most Important!!!!! The magical ingredient is VINEGAR! You must add some vinegar to the pot of soup in order to force the calcium in the bones to dissolve from the bones into the soup juice.
Just 1 pint of soup can give you as much as 1,000 milligrams of calcium. Wow!
Now let the bones stew for 4 hours or even longer.
Make sure all the meat has either fell off the bones or just starting to fall off the bone before you serve.
Bones had tons of flavor to all recipes!

Salmagundi

1 part salted, pickled beef or pork.
1 part fresh goat, dog, rat, cat or seabird.
1 part pickled vegetables, eggs, anchovies.
1 part grapes, crabapples, fresh fish, breadfruit "spagetti" and black banana mush.

Add tons of garlic, sugar, honey, salt, vinegar, oil, wine, cinnamon to taste. Serve hot from the cauldron. Garnish with musty croutons and wilted greens.

Um, no offense, S, but ewwww! I think I'll eat before I arrive. Darned pickled pig's feet are hard to digest.

Thanks just the same. 'Preciate the clean room and ambiance. Hope you have something to counteract the stench that some of these unwashed scabbies will bring with them.

Red Rider, I think the grog will help with the smell, and the gravel!

I could use some single-malt grog.

A sailor meets a pirate in a bar, and they take turns telling about their adventures on the seas. The sailor notes that the pirate has a peg-leg, a hook and an eye patch.

The sailor asks "So, how did you end up with the peg-leg?"

The pirate replies: "We were in a storm at sea, and I was swept overboard into a school of sharks. Just as my men were pulling me out, a shark bit my leg off."

"Wow!" said the sailor. "What about the hook?"

"Well," replied the pirate, "we were boarding an enemy ship and were battling the other sailors with swords. One of the enemy cut my hand off."

"Incredible!" said the sailor. "And how did you get the eye patch?"

"A seagull-dropping fell into my eye," replied the pirate.

"You lost your eye to a seagull-dropping?" the sailor asked incredulously.

"Well," said the pirate,"it was my first day with the hook..."

HEY! Y'know what would be fun?

We should go on a raid. We should go over to, say, SSFG and just commandeer the board! Just like real pirates do! We could board her, drink all her rum, and then begone!
