I will be taking some non bikers on their first field trip. We will ride the Norwottuck Rail Trail from Northampton Mass to Amherst. Its paved, low grades and a good place to start...............if.................

As I left work yesterday someone told me it might be closed for pavement problems. I checked the online site and its open again but the rumors persist. In an attempt to be green, someone put a high glass content in the paving mix. Over the years, the glass has been working up and out of the pavement and this year there seem to have been quite a large number of flats. I'm thinking about taking the MTB and its large knobbies instead of the Rabbit. My friends will not be very fast.
At any rate there will be pie. If you see me today, I will be smiling, so smile back....

Ok Out at 9.30 and as Ross needed some Hill road work- took him up his first couple. Only a 10% for a mile- swiftly followed by a 12% for about the same distance although it felt longer. Then hit the headwind for the long drag of about 5% for two miles to Beachy Head. He did well and the riding pics are of this area. You can see the Offroad hills in the background and both of us were looking at them wondering why we were playing with the traffic. Then it was PIE Time. Ross had Banoffie and I had the Apple. It was that big so I then struggled for the couple of miles to the MUP. That MUP was crowded today but pleased to say that the Muppets behaved themselves. One call out that we were coming and the dogs and kids brought under control and they all left us a clear passage. So just under 30 miles- 1600 ft of climbing and just had a Toasted Cheese and Onion Sandwich as The PIE had been worked off during the ride.
Still hungry though so might be worth another quick ride this afternoon.
That 6th picture shows one of the Georgian Manor Houses in our area. Built sometime in the late 1700's and is up for sale if any of you want a 16 bedroom house in 4 acres of Scrubland.

Accompanying Donna to her company picnic. I should cut up a tree toppled by the remnants of Ike as it came through Kentucky. If it doesn't rain(which we could use here), the tree might wait while I get a ride in.

This morning, I am putting the finishing touches on my 'sermon' for the weekend, I have a wedding this afternoon and then confessions, Mass and Baptisms in the evening... SO I am working too. No time for a pie ride................However I may find the pie anyway or something as a good substitute.

I will try to get some pie in but today it is a hill climb day, plan on 50 miles and two steep climbs. Still have two more centurys left this season to stay in shape for so I can't slack off quite yet.

Even I thought it was a bit on the large side but it is Pie Ride Day- so just do a few extra miles to work it off
And the cups have very thick walls so the Amount of coffee inside is not that enormous.
Hold on- You are Americans- Living in the land of 16oz steaks and gallon pots of Icecream!!!!

Jeff, Michael and I rode 23 miles around Coopers on a beautiful, cool morning. Lori had hot cherry pie and cold vanilla ice cream ready for us when we finished. It sure was nice to need to wear a light jacket while I rode.

Pie day starting badly for me. I brought my Univega ("my rain bike") into the kitchen last night to install new chainrings since it was forecast to rain today and I wanted to go for a ride rain or shine. After taking off the old chainrings, discovered that the crank puller I thought I had in the bottom of my tool box has gone missing. 
So the bike is unridable, and I'm waiting for the bike shop to open...
But, totally by coincidence, my wife made a pie last night and I had a piece while working on the bike, just after midnight.

...certainly in the fall and winter. But, in the summer (May to early September) it's really dry. I rode in a little rain commuting yesterday, but I haven't gotten really soaked for a couple of months.

Pie smie...I see few posts in the weight loss challenge and wonder why.
Got up at 5:15AM for a 9.7 mile individual time trial start time of 7:30AM. We were on the trainer warming up by 6:40AM. I set a new personal best today. I had a chocolate milk and latte at Peet's.
