Over River Through Woods With Photos

My ride report from yesterday -- up Highway 101 through Orick, Klamath, and to the ocean...

The wife rode with me for the first 13 miles. That's her up ahead.

We stopped for coffee, and then she headed back home.

This shows that we have some fall color even in California.

This road through the redwoods is one of my favorite sections to ride.

This is the Klamath river.

Lagoon creek, right by the ocean.

Back through the redwoods...

(continued in next post).

Some elk along the road

Economy hits hard:

I had to ride around the block a few times at the end to get the total above 80 miles.

The End

Now you've done it. I have to add "ride through the redwoods" to my list. I am a native Californian, and have driven through, but on a bike would be fab. Too bad those elk were so frightened of you and your bike. Great shots.

Wow!! Looks like a great ride and the pictures are fantastic.

Is that a four wheeled Bobber next to the old school house?
I've been kinda looking for one for my "O" gauge collection.

Yes, Humboldt. I almost took a movie as I rode along the big trees with the sun coming through the trunks -- but I probably would have crashed.

Hmmmm, I remember stories about Humboldt County. Don't you risk getting shot for poaching weed if you get off the beaten track up there?

I keep wondering, just how does that same riderless bike keep popping up in so many places?

Totally gorgeous -- and the ones with just autumn nature scenery aren't bad either!

<sign> Just some absolutely country, there, up yonder.
Thanks for sharing those shots. And way to go on the 80 miles.

If I had places like that to ride, I would never get off the bike. I would probably just camp along the road and get up early and keep on riding, never to be seen again.

Great report, TromboneAl. The ride through the redwoods does look enticing.

The growth in the photos of the redwoods appears to be fairly dense, and the raod appears to be fairly narrow. Does that density decrease effects of wind?

It was either '93 or '94 I was through that area on a camping/fishing trip. There's a little campground near the Klamath River and the 101? Too long ago. Point is, it looks like nothing has changed - that's a good thing. Except the little store closed, but no development to muck things up.

Yes. There's very little wind there even when it's blowing hard right by the ocean.

There's a little campground near the Klamath River and the 101?
Yes. I ate my sandwich there.

Very nice post and beautiful country!
I think I may want to follow behind your next ride as there were a lot of abandoned bikes along the ride I could scoop up!

I see the reflection of two people in the window of the closed place- one in yellow with camera flash, one in the middle- were there two of you at this point, or are you riding too close to halloween?

Absolutely beautiful country. Looks like a perfect ride. Are the elk really that tame, they don't seem concerned at all about your presence. What are the temperatures like there this time of the year?

I am SOOO jealous. It was 20 degrees here this morning and I am a cold weather wimp. We do have magnificent colors on our trees though.

BTW are you a fellow trombone player like your moniker would imply?
