Who's going to the 2009 Summer National Senior Games?
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I got my confirmation that I qualified for the 2009 games for the time trials and road races. Today I got the official registration form.
Cycling events start on Thursday, August 6, 2009, and finish on Monday, August 10, 2009. The funny thing is that they have rain dates reserved. It never rains in (Palo Alto) California...
...at least not in August.
Anyone else on the forum going?

Don't mince words
Congratulations! That's terrific!
I didn't identify the Senior Games as one of my cycling goals until too late to make any qualifying races. So my plan is to qualify for the 2011 games.
What events are you participating in? I plan to watch the cycling, to get an idea of what's expected of me.
I'm excited for you. How do you feel?

How does one qualify for these games (besides being a senior)?

I am racing in everything offered: 5K and 10K TTs and 20K and 40K road races. I am definitely looking forward to it. Part of it is the Olympic type of experience -- being around a lot of athletes competing in different sports. I was a little disappointed with the lack of participants in the California games -- about 10 racers in the 50-54 age group -- but a silver and 3 bronzes were good regardless.
Hi FrederickH,
You can find out more about the games here.

I know of three of my riding/training cycling companions that qualified and are going from NC. One of them used a strategy of going to another state to qualify as the TT route was faster than the one we used in NC.......Good luck to you all!!
