Spin classes, using bike more and more for utility (simple) biking, swimming for training, overall fitness and headed for a "sprint triathlon" next year. Sorry, Yen, that is 3. I can't follow directions either.

After 26 seasons of riding, I tried and bought a .... TRIKE.
Most fun that I ever had on wheels.

I got Louis Garneau shoe covers. These really work. My feet stay warm now, easily down to the mid-30s. Now I just need to find some effective warm gloves. Even goretex ski gloves don't keep my fingers warm very well.

Lots of new things this year, but keeping to one, I'll go with the one that surprised me the most - a Garmin Edge 305. While I've only had this a short time (less than a month), the impact is already being felt. My training rides (some of my rides are for enjoyment only and don't count in this category) are more purposeful. I've been doing a better job of setting and reaching goals with the added feedback I get from the data I download to my computer. Additionally, I can put this thing on any of my bikes, eliminating the other hardware for traditional cycling computers. Or, I can even throw it in my back jersey pocket if I don't want to see data while I'm riding, and it still works.

I got some hard-sole cycling shoes, and my feet feel a bit better.
I got two Planet Bike Superflash tail lights. They work well!

I tried a rental bike on this summer's biketour of Northern France, rather than (as in the past) bringing my own.
It was fun as always - but not as much fun as previous tours on a lighter, better fitting and more familiar machine of my own.
Not sure I'll repeat that.

A brifter. Meh. I'm not sure I like it any better than the trigger shifter it replaced. It does shift the SRAM T3 hub satisfactorly, but the ergonomics of twisting one's hand around so far in an unatural way to shift leaves me wondering why brifters are considered de rigueur on road bikes these days.

Since we're limiting this to just one...hmmmmm...
I started riding more than once a week. That led to everything else.

I took up bike camping. That was a positive.
I got a better camera and became a shutterbug. That also was a positive.
I toured alone. That's not so much a positive. I was talking to myself by the end of the tour.

I started to race. I'm a rookie 55 yr old Cat 5 newbie but, I usually finish in the top third of my races which inlcudes racers of all ages. I did three crits, two TT's, 5 road races and two cyclocross races to date. I still have two more cyclo cross races and possibly will do the Danny Chew's Dirty Dozen hill climb race in Pittsburgh the day after Thanksgiving. Being able to race took a bunch of changes and "new things" but since we are limited to one new thing I'll stop. I'm looking forward to next season and the winter training needed to kick some younger butts.

Hey 10 wheels
Did you get your pallet of potting soil back in the buggy on the first trip, or did you have to go back for a second trip?
Or is this your training secret?

My concern was where to park without someone taking the bike, while I shopped.
Found the perfect place. Guess I should have taken down the flag.
Every pedal stroke is training for me. 10,000 miles ytd is plenty of training.

Cut my riding in half- And learnt to cut and glue wood together and dig holes in the ground- and keep the wife happy-
Sounds plenty of things but all related.

Hmmm One....
OK, here it is and it's fairly major.
After not having ridden a bicycle since around 1977, I bought myself a new road bike and took up cycling as a hobby and common interest with my young bride who has been riding for a number of years.

I let go of my fears and let my children, 8 and 11, finally roam free on their bikes around the neighborhood.

I learned to ride my bike hands free. I still can't do it very well, but I once went about two blocks without touching the handlebars.
I also did my first metric century.
For 2009, I'm thinking about participating in a mountain bike race.
Then, the Apocalypse.
