Getting too old?
No cycling this week. I'm about to leave for the airport to visit offshore oil installations belonging to companies with which we might form a joint venture. I'm part of an installation/evaluation team.
I remember (in the spirit of the 'remember your rides 30 years ago' thread) when I loved offshore intallations, regarded helicopter rides as adventures, and regarded hanging around in despatch huts as somehow romantic.
Now, I remember friends who perished in offshore aviation accidents (frequently occuring, 'lost the horizon', not counted as oil industry accidents) and feel like asking 'Young man, can you show me your flight history?'
And for me, what used to be "Yea Whizzy, someone's putting me on an adventure" is now "Darn it, no bike riding this week"
Signs of ageing?

I used to have a job that required a lot of business travel.
I remember leaving on my very first trip thinking about how much fun expense account travel was going to be. On my way home I observed that it hadn't been as much fun as I had expected. So on my next trip I made a concentrated effort to have fun. As I was driving home I decided that business travel just wasn't very much fun.
That's why they call it work. If it was fun, your boss would be going insted of you.

(Seen as a sig on someone in the Road Forum.)
Thinking about the past and I can only remember the extreme goodtimes and the extreme bad times. The bits in the middle are lost to me now. They were probably when I was just enjoying work and life.

Without Night how would one know and enjoy Day? In the same way without Work how would one know and enjoy Play?
Work is the price one pays to be able to play.
Enjoy the anticipation.
