Extra nice ride on Saturday

It's getting cold here in Oregon, but where we ride (central Oregon) there is no snow yet so my wife and I did about 8-9 miles and on our return we rode within 150' of a small heard of Elk and watched for a little while then rode on before we disturbed them. Normally this time of year we would already have some snow, so this was a double bonus for the week end. We may visit that area next week and bring a camera in case we get lucky.

I hear this coming week-end will be the first real shot at snow in the Portland area. Supposedly down to 500 ft. We haven't even had frost to this point. Guess that means a hard January.

Never seeing one in the wild, just how big is an elk? Somewhere between a whitetail deer and moose?

Yep. 'bout the size of a horse, but with some serious antlers (at least on the guys).
