Sunday's the day!
Yep,
Sunday is gonna be a great day around here in NE Ohio. Forecast is for only a 30% chance of rain, a high of 47 and winds of 22 mph or less! Whoopie! Our cold snap is finally over after 30+ days. To celebrate our wonderful weather I've invited the 21 riders on my "winter night ride invite list" to come out to my house and ride 40+ miles then have chili dogs, "road pops" and watch the NFL. So far I've got committments from 6.
You're all welcome to come too, just be sure to bring your fast bike.
I'm so ready, those young punks don't know it but, I'm gonna smo....

Our cold snap should end tommorrow. Pity about the 2" of rain that is forecast with 20mph winds.

Our cold and rain has arrived just in time for the double century! I just looked at weather.com for three areas where we'll be riding:
Hemet High = 58 Low = 33
Riverside High = 59 Low = 36
Temecula High = 60 Low = 33
I have plenty of wool (tights, balaclava, socks, turtle-neck base layer) and my rain jacket in addition to the usual shorts, jersey, arm and leg warmers and long finger gloves.
Oh, plus "toe warmer" thingies that fit over the front of my cycling shoes.
For morning and evening I have my Nite-Rider Blow-Torch light with 3 fully charged batteries (i.e. 12 hours of battery light), plus lots of blinkies.
For food I have Sustained Energy, Hammer Gel, some bananas and Pop Tarts, but will rely mostly on the Sustained Energy.
200 miles in the cold rain tomorrow. What fun!
Oh, and did I mention the High Wind advisory?

I have to work Sunday, hopefully the good weather will stay through Monday. 47 will feel like a heat wave after all the teen & twenties. Not that even my "fast" bike would be fast enough for your group. (It's the bike, not the engine, you see).
A double century in those conditions?!!! I remember my first half marathon, 38 & sleet--the only good thing about it (besides finishing) was the best pizza I EVER had afterward!! Took me hours to stop shivering. Rick, you've got more gumption that I could ever dream of.

Thanks Mr. Jet,
The good news is, I survived. We had cold, wind, rain, eight hours of riding in the dark, some mechanicals and a mistake it the route sheet that added 11 bonus miles. I was cold (pretty much) all day. Started at 4:30 AM, finished a bit after 10:00 PM.
Will dedicate a new thread to the Full Report. Now I need sleep, and lots of it! Off to my warm bed!
