10,000 miles again!
I am 104 miles shy of 10,000 for the second year in a row. All miles are outdoor - no roller or trainer miles. This year included 3 single speed centuries and learning to ride fixed gear - about 300 hundred miles so far. Not bad for a 60+ rider who weighed ~300 lbs and smoked 3 packs a day 35 years ago.

I was proud of 10,000km a couple years back. Mind you, that was shoe-horned between work commitments and on some mighty hilly territory.
Anyway, congrats! Keep up the good work.
Right now, I'm snowbound, so will be short of 9,000 km for '08.

I admire your dedication....quite an achievement in terms of grit, energy, and energy drink consumed. Maybe you could describe a "typical" week's riding schedule and the kind of equipment you're using?

Holy smoke! That's a lot of miles. I'm only 56% of the stud you are and I still have some years before I reach 60. Now get out and get that last 104 miles this weekend.

Sorry to go Off Topic, NoRacer, but I see you have an '05 Giant TCR with Nevation Wheels (they look like the carbon ones). I have an '05 OCR Limited with Neuvation wheels (SL28's). And looking at your blog, I see that you are even more compulsive than I am with your record keeping and narratives. Good stuff.

Fantastic job. I do have a question. Are you retired or work? I squeezed out 4,500 this year and maybe could have found time for another 500 if I really pressed. A guy we ride with logs 7,500 + every year and I am always amazed how he does it.

There is a fellow in a bike club near by (Sacramento) who allegedly rides 20,000 miles a year (he has no car). When asked if he was married, he replied, "Used to be."

Yes, the Neuvations are carbon clinchers. They are retired at the moment. I believe I bent the rear wheel's axel and need to get a new one. I'm riding my American Classic CR-420s for now.
Regarding the blog, for the most part, only the bigger rides are up there. The daily commutes to and from work are not. It'd be too much fodder to wade through if I did, so the blog has highlights--when I remember to record the ride on my phone and if I'm not running out of battery power on the phone.

As I had pointed out to me many years ago, 10,000 miles a year is 27 and change a day. It seems deceptively simple when you think about it like that.
BTW, the annual mileage record is 75,056 (Briton Tommy Godwin, January 1 - December 31, 1939, Raleigh bicycle with Sturmey-Archer four speed hub.) That's over 205 miles a day!
Best,
tcs
