But wait, thanks to Curtis we already have official 50+ cycling shorts (black and red with 50+ logo), and I agree, white is just wrong for cycling shorts.

I can't even begin to list the things that are bound to go wrong with white shorts. They all boil down to: Not white any more.

I was watching the Olympics telecast last year and during one of the road races it was raining (I think it was the women's race?), and as the rain soaked one of the team's white shorts they became transparent. It was so obvious (and for some reason the TV camera kept showing them) that the commentator finally said, "I'll bet that team is regretting their choice of white shorts right about now.."

I saw a rather rotund fellow wearing black cycling shorts with flames down the legs and "Baddass" sewn into the backside. But somehow these seem scarier.

White bib shorts are the best. Reserve my pair for our group rides that get down into W Va.

Don't these guys look happy? It would be far worse in white, add to that - I'd need 'em in XXL

Oh no!!! I'm so not clicking on that picture!

Every 3 months it shows up in the road forum, full size. My eyes have burned in their sockets one too many times -- I'm going away now, preserving my sight.

But OMG! That makes me wonder WTF they were thinking...

Unfortunately, it appears that one of my favorite teams will be demonstrating just how bad a choice white really is for bike shorts. I won't post the photo directly and I suggest that you don't follow this link to the introduction of the 2009 Team Columbia-High Road.

What were they thinking?
