See, now in Road Cycling we could argue over who's really not lightening up and start a massive flame war, everybody would join in, and there would be no problem. I get to retire in 3.5 months, then I'll be a full time bike racer. Just HTFU, you got 11+ years of pain and loathing ahead of you.

The only thing that helps my brain work better is cycling, and now that it's 0-10º here all the time, that's off the table. Hoping to get out tomorrow when it inches up into the 15ºF range. If I lived in Minnesota I'd throw myself into a snowblower and be done with it. This weather is highly unusual here. We only get a couple of days a winter where it doesn't break high teens.
Dude, you've watched Fargo way too many times.

Dang, PCad... every time I read your posts all I can say is... wow.
And I don't necessarily mean that in a complimentary way.

I mean, sometimes, you are a really funny guy in a dry sort of way
And, sometimes, you're just sad.
I just see someone I don't ever want to be.

Crack back; I know you have to but, no joke, man, I hope you find whatever it is you're looking for.
Assuming you know.

I'm having the same experience at 69. I'm faster on my mountain bike on my typical 18 mile rides. The only negative I can identify so far due to ageing is about two years ago it became apparent that if I upped my intensity/activity level abruptly, it took longer to recover.

The best way to deal with ageing is denial. As other posts have indicated, just keep pushing hard and things will take care of themselves.

The key to aging with happiness is family.

In the past year I've acquired two grandchildren. We babysat one of them last night and she's crawling around here even as I type.

Two years I acquired a new daughter who is now a teenager.

And I want a new mountain bike.

And I've rediscovered the joy of reading books. It's a lot more satisfying than sitting in front of this stupid computer.

I don't pass any judgments on PCad. Internet personas are strange things and he has a reputation to maintain.

Without this silly ritual we call a birthday, I really wouldn't know how old I am. The first clue was the lack of candles on the cake, I guess. Many were replaced by one, with just just a number denoting my age. I guess old cooters can't blow out a bunch of candles, or something.

I will say, because of my lifestyle choices, I would have sworn I was 60, when I was actually in my late 20's or early 30's. Now that I am 50, I could swear I am in my late 20's or early 30's. My bike helps me out in this thought.

Hmm, musings on aging....

I'm 53, and I always have to stop and think how old I am....could be CRS, but it just isn't something I think about a lot.

I still have all my hair(different color, tho). I still don't wear glasses. I weigh within 10 lbs of what I did when I graduated college 32 years ago. I'm still working the same job(farming). I still listen to the same music. I don't take any medications except vitamins in the morning and an occasional Advil. My girls are growing up, but that's kinda neat...new experiences. I'm gonna be a grandfather in September for the first time, but that's really cool. I still call my 81yo father "Daddy"(it's a Southern thing). Best of all, I'm still riding my bike, 40+ years after spending endless summers riding all over my small home town. What's not to like? Yeah, I'm lucky!

As Jimmy Buffett say, I'm growing older, but not UP!!

Anyone have this problem as well - or is it my own special brand of weird "oldness"?
I don't have it, Pam, but it would help me get my "bad carb" (chips and such) under better control! It's just amazing how interconnected the body is!

I don't have that reaction to salt (just the unfortunate HBP response), but how do you like this one: Butternut Squash

I was peeling some butternut squash for my wife to make soup, and I developed an acute case of contact dermatitis. I've also recently developed allergic reactions to some types of apples and some types of sweet cherries. Just a few more oldie oddities.

I read that allergies can be developed as one is exposed to an allergen more and more times in your life. It just reaches a threshold, and the body's tolerance becomes nil, and an allergic reaction begins. If I was an MD I could actually be articulate about this.

So Terex and BPIPam, have you seen doctors? What do they say?

I haven't had any of these, yet.

No real need to see a doctor for my reactions at this time. My wife is a pharmacist and we have several medical professionals in the family. I just need to avoid known allergens, and be alert to any new reactions. I may need to start carrying an epinephrine pen to treat anaphylaxis. When my lips started burning and my throat started swelling shut after eating just one fresh sweet cherry, it really got my attention.

The allergic response to these foods is typically based on certain proteins in the food. Cooking tends to break down the proteins, so I'm still good to go on butternut squash soup.

That's deep SKT. Actually, anybody who is a Mets fan is bound to be sad and pathetic at least once each year in September.

Know what I'm looking for? I can't even remember what I'm looking for. And since this is the 50+ Forum, many of you know what that's all about.

"Getting Old Is Hell"...

Thats why I am going to refuse to get old

I had my 70th birthday last year and this last Nov I bought my
first bike in many decades.

I am working out on my Kurt Kinetic waiting for the temp to
get above freezing so I can get out and ride...
