This was a Great Day - Am I nuts?

Up at 5:30, rode bike in dark with lights in 20F to rec center

Did 40 minutes of solid lap swimming

Worked out with weights and equipment solid 45 minutes, especially doing 65 weighted dips, etc.

Rode bike home

Walked 3 miles with youngest son riding his 3 wheeler

Ended with 1.5 hour bike ride.

At 69 years old, am I nuts to think this was a "great day?"

Yeah, I love lifting weights.

I love being able to physically measure getting stronger when most folks think you are supposed to be getting weaker!!

Not nuts sounds like a great day if YOU enjoyed it, and it sounds like you did. To me you are an inspiration. I hate the cold and it has barely gotten out of the teens for the last couple of weeks here. Somehow have to get over that and "just do it"

That does sound like a GREAT day! I am stuck at work this weekend and will not be able to get out and enjoy the warm weather during the day. These 12 hour shifts just KILL me

Hey Fox, I really like hearing about doing this kind of stuff at age 69. Inspiring and encouraging. Reminds me of this guy:

Who I met at the top of Mt. Constitution in the San Juans. He's 79, and rode up without stopping (unlike me). Note Ramrod shirt.

Some questions:

For how long many years have you been exercising like this?

How many days per week do you exercise?

Care to share how many pounds you lift?

Does this regimen keep your belly trim??

Thanks,

Thanks,
My wife and I have always exercised.

I try to do at least 3 of 5 activities each day.
Walking
Swimming
Weight Lifting (resistance exercises)
Stretching
Bicycling (or a trainer class session)
I can't use the "traditional" weight things to tell you how much I lift. Perhaps "resistance exercises" would be a better description. I do a lot of cable work, some ball work, and a variety of other things which really have no external meaning in that unless one is talking about identical cables or machines, it is apples and oranges.

However, here is a bit of what I did this morning after church (a light day).

On the dip machine:
10 body dips to warm up.
break for some leg lifts
10 body dips with a 30 pound extra weight on the weight belt.
12 pushups
break for some leg lifts
10 body dips witha 50 pound extra weight on the weight belt.
12 more pushups
I can say that on the "pec machine" I max out at 230 pounds - in the old gym I maxed the machine out at 300 pounds - different machine, different gearing. No one else my age at the gym even comes close.

Today, I did about 30 minutes of swmming, 30 minutes of various resistance exercises, my stretching and walked just a mile home. However, I started the morning with singing at our early service and the mid-morning service with our small ensemble.

And, no, although I have very good abs, I still enjoy eating too much. No flat tummy!!

And, I am the world's slowest bicyclist! Speed is NOT my thing.

..back to BF from a long absence (new job, lots of cool stuff to learn)

I want my grandkids (don't have any yet) to remember me as that old guy who loved bikes and always tried to fully ride every hill no matter how steep or long. It's a life metaphor. Sounds like you are ahead of me.
