Whether indoors or outdoors, saddle time can result in boils and chaffing. Mostly it's time related.. ^.. Agreed, bike clothes are extremely comfortable. Once on tour my street clothes got wet. So I had to sleep in the tent either nakid or in bike clothes. Bike clothes were my choice. And I slept just fine. And I was ready all the faster when starting the tour the next day.. Still, unless it's a Halloween party , they are not That comfortable. Seems that with time and when Not in the saddle position, stuff starts to feel a little imprisoned. ?. And street people think it weird. But, what does it matter. What ever floats your boat.

Under 15 miles it's gym shorts and wicking Ts, over 15 miles I suit up.

"I suit up to ride on my trainer, and that never leaves the basement. So zero miles for me. Though I usually wear a t-shirt instead of a jersey for those rides.

I have been known to suit up and not even ride. Wonder what a psychologist would think of that?"

I am not sure a psychologist would even take on bicyclists. It would be a losing battle for them.

From home to Trader Joe's (grocery) and back is 6.2 mi. so no special clothes (except the helmet), riding either my Hercules 3-Speed or my wife's TREK single speed (flat pedals).

Those are the only "short" rides I do; everything else is minimum 30 miles, so I always were cycling shoes, shorts, jersey (plus helmet, of course).

I don't own any cycling clothing, so the whole question is theoretical. All my riding is transportation so I just wear what the trip requires. Somehow, "cycling clothing" sounds analagous to "car suit." Then again, there have been situations in which I have worn car clothing, so I can dig it.
