Handmade Bike Show this weekend

The national handmade bike show is this coming weekend, in Indianapolis.

I just found out about it, or I might have planned to go. That's a 6 hour drive from here. I think it would be fun.

Take a look at the exhibitors who will be attending:

I haven't heard of one around here. I should be glad though, so I don't buy anything else.:D

There should be some real eye candy there. Bruce Gordon's best of show in 07 almost knocked me off my seat. His best lug work in 08 did!

Living in Pennsylvania, I've seen some of Rich Adams, Steve Bilenky, and Drew Guldalian's work up close. These guys are amazing. I can't even begin to imagine what that show will be like.

Mike DeSalvo won an award last year just before he delivered my custom TI.

I went to the show last year in Portland. It was a great show - I'd encourage anyone within comfortable travel distance to check it out.

I went when the show was in San Jose a few years back. It's definitely worth the time if you get the chance.

If you come to Indy, check out the huge pile of concrete rubble next to the Convention Center that used to be the Hoosier Dome. That might make a good setting for handmade trials bike demos.

There should be a law that says all bicycle frames must have lugs.

I gather you're not a libertarian.

How does one make a bike show by hand?

How else would you make it?

Oh, Tom, you gotta go and take lots of pictures for us! Well, not if you don't want to, I guess.

Tom Bombadil 02-26-09 11:57 PM

I do want to. And if it had been almost any other weekend, I probably would have.

Remember when I said I was going to drop to a 75% work assignment? That begins next week, on March 2nd. So any weekend after this one will be at least a 3-day weekend.

But this weekend is my last 2-day weekend. And I don't like making 6-hour drives down on Sat and back on Sun.

Leave Friday after work. A carton of beef jerky, a case of beer, and some country tunes on your 8-track.

And don't forget...

It's only a two hour drive for me but a Home & Garden show, Special Olympics event and the annual cycling club banquet will keep me in town this weekend. I was really hoping to see the bike show:(
