Rode my age yesterday...
with a few friends at Stony Creek Metropark, north of Detroit. Temps were in the low 50s with a 20-25 mph north wind. That's me on the left; the kid of the group is on the right.

Congratulations on the birthday ride. Wicked looking bikes. I've only seen photos of that type. Never seen one up close and personal. What are the chances of seeing four together?!

No, because both 'sides' of the chain - power and return - are managed at the power idler under the seat. Of the black ones, there's only about a dozen in the U.S., so it's pretty cool that we know each other and are close enough to occasionally ride together. The red one is a 'one-of' homebuilt. Yep, they're as fast as they look. Getting a faster bike is the perfect way for me to compensate for being slower in my old age!

These models seem to be pretty good. At least, the upright riders in my club keep asking me to ride my old recumbent more. My biggest issue on hills seems to be getting caught behind the uprights; they lose speed fast, and about the time I'm forced to hit the brakes and double-downshift, they stand on the pedals and try to scamper away. But if I go around them as they lose speed, they rarely catch back up unless I wait for them.
