In Feb I switched over to riding a road bike after a few years on a hybrid. Tonight I turned over the thousandth mile on my new bike. This is probably no big deal for most of you, but I've been pleased with my progress so far:

Feb - 94 miles, 14.0 mph avg.
Mar - 149 miles, 14.4 mph avg.
Apr - 350 miles, 14.9 mph avg.
May - 430 miles, 15.6 mph avg.

Next goal is riding a century at the end of June.

I have a couple in at a bit over 50. Planning on a metric century this Saturday. Trying to get more of t.i.t.s (time in the saddle), but weather and work conspire against me .

Seems that you have a viable plan. As soon as you can do 75 miles in one sitting a century is the next step. Good luck and keep us posted when you reach the goal.

It is a big deal and you should be proud of yourself! That's excellent progress.

Don't know if you have anything like this in WI, but here in CA we have the Thousand Mile Club which you get for riding a thousand miles of Double Centuries in a year. So after your century, a double century will most likely be your next goal.

I am just a tad ahead of you with the miles , me being around 1100 and I am 2 mph more than you as well. I have yet to do a centry but have plans in my head to do one.
I posted awhile back I was going to ride brothers and sister then moms age before year is up. They are all older than me btw. Me being 57 in Oct.
Enough of me and back to you...Congradulations and keep it going strong! Stay safe.

I'm a little behind you - I've got 980 miles logged so far, but I'll be over a 1000 tomorrow with my first metric century of the year.

Now, if I could come close to your average speed, that would really be nice!

Is it still a road bike if you change the handlebars and make it upright? I have over 1000 on the Bianchi Beanz and Gina gave me last December.

All you really need to do as far as training for a century are a couple of good metrics - that is if you are not going for a land speed record. It has been said here many times - you don't need to ride a century to train for a century.

I hereby state for the record that my average is only meaningful to me. If you're riding the same routes in the same conditions, then feel free to make comparisons.

I was happy to see that there has been some improvement in that area, though.

Congrats on your milestone.
Great progress both in distance per month and in average speed. Looking forward to reading about your first metric and then your first century. I have no doubt that you'll do it with no problem.

It is a worthy milestone to take some satisfaction in, for sure, and you are right to do so. But if you continue to progress as you have so far, in year or so it will make you smile for a different reason. If you keep track of actual hours spent riding, you may be even more impressed.

I predict that your progress speedwise will soon level off, however.
