Knee is finally catching up to me I think

I have had knee pain for a good number of years and mostly attributed it to standing on concrete factory floors since 1974. A couple of years ago the right knee was giving me a pretty hard time so I went to the ortho doc. I had an MRI and she told me I had a slight tear in the meniscus. She told me at the time she could go in and do an arthroscopic procedure as she called it. I told her that if I could ride that summer which was two years ago and it didn't give me anymore trouble than I already had I would put off the surgery. HMMMM was that smart? Well here I am 3 days away from a really fun ride and the knee is swelling up a bit and it was hurting like, well you get the picture. I have iced it down for the last 3 days and worn my brace (which is more uncomfortable than the pain) the swelling is down but its still kind of painful but not too bad. I guess I can't do much more than completly screw it up by doing the 30 to 50 mile (I haven't decided on which one) ride on Sunday. Crap this makes me angry, one for putting it off and two for it to decide to flare up right now. Gonna play it by ear and if it completely blows out I guess I'll be doing the 12 mile portion of the ride with the rest of the kids. I paid for that *&^%$# T-shirt and by golly I'm gonna get it. The doc said if I could live with it and it didn't lock up and I could ride and stuff it would be better to wait so after two years I guess that answers my own question. Just venting I guess. thanks for reading about my travails, I'm sure there are others that have had more to deal with than this but it is frustrating isn't it.

Ouch! In a variety of ways, OUCH!

Take it easy. Accelerate gradually. Use those gears. All spinning no mashing.

May the ride go so well you decide to duck surgery for a few more years.
