We rode the regular Friday ride to lunch at Smith's Coffeehouse in Arcanum. It was one of those perfect days for riding....temps in the low 80's, a gentle breeze and plenty of blue skies and sunshine.
I felt fine after the 30 mile ride

I rode 20.6 mi today. Down a little bit from last week's big ride, but I rode harder this week, so I guess the total workout was comparable. One achievement: I live at the top of a hill. On all previous rides, I had to stop midway up this hill as I was finishing my ride in order to rest. Today, I made it all the way home without having to stop.
The limiting factor on my rides is not cardiovascular fitness. It still is hand numbness. However, each week I can go further before it becomes bothersome. I am slowly rounding into cycling shape and building my cycling skills.

A shorter evening ride in Kansas of about 24 miles. Its been cooler in the evenings and the countryside is beautiful, not to dry yet.

Twenty five mile club ride this morning with some nice weather. First ride since last Sunday thanks to all the rain. Waiting for the wife to decide when she wants to do her ride and that will tack on another 15 to 20 miles for the day.

Rode to my Weight Watchers meeting, then to Zionsville for a pulled pork, egg, cheese and salsa verde breakfast burrito at the farmers' market, then home (I know, I know, but I'd had a good week). Totaled 20.4 miles. As I was leaving Zionsville, I saw a group of 6 or 7 young guys in matching club kit coming up behind me. They passed as I was just starting to slow on the small rise that you hit when leaving the Little Eagle Creek valley. The first one actually said, "excuse us, sir." One in the middle of the bunch said good morning, and one of the tail-enders asked how I was doing.
The nerve of them. "Sir," indeed.

Went down to Columbus and rode 50 hilly miles in Bartholomew and Brown counties on a Grand Touring ride with 15 others. Moderately hot and humid but a lot of shade from trees on the ride.

25 mile club ride with some nice sprinting plus 5 miles each way to and from ride. Headed home I entered the Midtown Greenway (=the freeway of bike trails in Minneapolis) and immediately a guy got on my wheel. I pulled him at a brisk but not insane speed (21-22 MPH) into a modest headwind to the end of the trail, about 3 miles or so, then we went our separate ways. He said "thanks". It was a nice way to end the morning ride - having him there kept me from easing off at the end of the ride.

Did the first 50 miles of the Windmill Century (Santa Maria, CA). This is a modest-size ride with approximately 500(?) entries. Course was well marked, roads mostly good, almost not traffic, great weather and good rest stops: couldn't ask for much more. Our recent mileage is a bit low for doing a Century and there was no 100K option, but we're pleased with the ride. Not much climbing so we averaged about 15.8 mph.

Saturday morning is always the "Bike for the Health of It" program with the local metroparks. Fourteen miles through the parks around downtown Dayton. This ride should really be named "Tour de Parks" as we visit 5 parks along the rivers.

51 miles today, 31 to Seal Beach, 21 of that into a 15 mph steady headwind. Took 1 hour 50 minutes total time to the beach. Sunny 74 to 80 degrees, lots of people out because of Carmageddon.

64 miles today on SART with some of the Riverside Bike Club "Rebel C" group. Most on track or fixed gear bikes. 21 mph to Huntington Beach and about 16 mph return. 4 of 8 riders bonked at 42 miles, stopped at 7-11 for twinkies and Monsters. Must remind them to eat during the ride.

Only about 15 miles on bike patrol at a local event Saturday, but it was pretty ugly out. It was hot (90's) and very humid. We spent the last 3 hours on foot -- I wasn't sad to put the bike away. I got home at 1 AM and it was still 90 degrees and 92 percent humidity. Ugh!

Got in 10 more miles of neighborhood riding with the wife yesterday, so it was 35 miles total. This morning we went to our normal wilderness park MUP. It was pretty crowded at 7:20 am when we got there because the weather was nice (upper 70's). I tacked on another 30 miles and she did 22 on her recumbent and she was ready to head home because of the heat.

Last week I rode in to work Wed, Thurs & Sat, 15.6 miles each time.
On Wed, I noticed this flock of pink flamingos that had landed in the front yard of a house I pass. Luckily for me, they were still there on Sat when I remembered to bring my camera.
