Some pictures from my ride this afternoon. Cell phone camera doesn't do the glorious autumn day any justice...

18.73 miles, again doing a check on the status of the Midland Trail (MUP). All the concrete is poured, now awaiting 2 bridges to finish the 31st. to 25th. St. portion of the trail. 25th. to 21st. street, probably won't be finished till Spring 2012, Rats!

Those look like great roads. We also had another perfect day. Got in 37 easy miles up and down the Chicago lakefront. Just over two hours of riding in mild, summer like weather.

The sun was so strong at noon, I applied sunscreen, no joke. I've done 169 miles so far this month. If this weather continues, I'll try for 800 miles this month.

Our local greenway network just connected the main in-town section with that of the most well-to-do suburb in the county. Reports say that there are 66 miles of greenway in the county.

Today, with doubling back and such (exploring the newly-opened area), I did 52 miles. This evening, kids and I will wind up with 4-1/2 more.

Tomorrow, it's back to the commute....

Didn't ride yesterday as it's my normal rest day but I did another 16 miles after work at the wilderness park. This weather we are having is absolutely fantastic. I hope it stays this way all winter.

Today: First really good ride on #1 recumbent since getting the replacement seat frame from RANS a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful warm sunny day in Central Indiana - rode 24 mostly-rural miles at 17mph, which is faster than I've ridden for quite a while.

Monday I had my best time ever on the popular local (almost) 30 mile loop. I really didn't expect to have a strong ride after the 109 mile ride on Saturday, but we had a good little group of four working well together for the first half. Then two of us pulled away on a long climb and rode most of the way in together until he dropped me on a climb a few miles from the end. He finished a minute ahead of me, also with his best time.

On today's ride we had seven riders working together the whole way. A good, hard 23 mile ride. It is getting harder to finish before dark. Another month and the weekday rides will be over for the season.

I rode 6 miles to the gym to swim, pushed along downhill on my 'bent at 30 mph tail wind. But, I paid for it on the way back - took over an hour for the 6 miles in 30 mph head winds. Also gusted me sideways, blowing me around the trail. But, I made it OK, and, yes, it was fun.

I enjoyed a summer night in October. I took a short nighttime ride in a park that runs along a canal in 70f+ weather. Plenty of folks from the 'hood walking dogs, jogging, playing touch football under the park lights. Two other cyclist were out with lights. Part of the MUP is not served by lights. I really enjoy the dark and bike lights do a better job in total darkness. It creates a safe but personal space.

Only 9 miles at about 9 MPH... but one of the best rides I've had in a long time.

Why? Well, it was a clear blue sky, calm cool air and smooth road surface. That always helps.

But best of all, my 13 year old daughter was riding with me!

Her usual rides are in 0.6 mile increments around our neighborhood. However, by taking it easy she rode far beyond what she usually does and thoroughly enjoyed herself (me too!). At 13, I suspect there's a limited number of future dad/daughter excursions (at least for a while!), so this was good.

34 miles on the mtb and near 3000' of climbing on Balsam Mtn Rd in Smoky Mtn. NP. Beautiful peak Fall colors at higher elevations. We rode 17 miles down the hill then 17 miles back up. The climb took us 2:06 with 2800' of gain.

Enjoy it while you can. My wife's daughter used to do 8-10 mile rides on the rail trail with me at that age. Last one was about when she was 15 or 16. She's 25 now and on her own, but she just had me tune her bike up and take it to her so she could ride with her boy friend. And we are talking about getting together to ride again so "at least for a while" seems about right.

I may have to figure a way for us to ride together, followed by more riding for me.

Did 16 mi. on a nearby MUP with a lunch stop at the midpoint with my 10 yr. old daughter. West MI. weather was beautiful, daughter was a joy to spend the day with, and lunch was "adequate." No pictures, sadly.

I rarely do the local group rides, but I saw one the Potomac Pedalers were doing, so I decided to check it out. They only had the A/BB ride class, so I knew I would be outgunned, but I since I knew the roads well enough, I wasn't worried about getting dropped.

The ride took in the northern section of Skyline Drive, as well as a climb up Chester Gap, and Gid Brown Hollow (with a mile or so of STEEP dirt roads). 104 miles, 9200 feet of climbing.

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/119981380

I did get dropped more or less, but was able to catch back up with the group at the rest stops. There were still riders at the parking lot when I got back, so I consider that a major accomplishment

OMG what a beautiful day. Skyline was pretty crowded even though we're a week or two away from peak leaf-peeping season. Saw a small black bear. But the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Cool but not cold, no wind, not a cloud in the sky...

I want to do it again. But not tomorrow... Every muscle in my body was cramping up last night, and I can barely walk. But it was oh so worth it.

NealH and I did a short 24 miler today in perfect upper 40s temps. These are my favorite riding conditions! I forget how much better I feel on the bike when it's cool, compared to anything over 70º. 1600' of sometimes pretty steep hills to get over on this ride and the Fall colors made it even better.

18 miles today including two trips up my favorite/most hated hill, two miles at constantly increasing grade, pretty sure I couldn't have made it three times. Triple chain rings are great.
