Rode to work again today and again it was unseasonably cool in the morning and very comfortable in the PM. Had my first 16+mph average round trip for the year.

20 miler this morning at daybreak makes 134 for the week. Next week starts week nine. Twenty less pounds and I feel ten years younger. Bought my wife a Cannondale road bike so will have a riding partner soon.

Snuck in a 30 minute run this afternoon.

chances of storms this morning so bypassed the club ride. Went out in the afternoon, after things had gotten hot and muggy, and put in a 22 mile ride in nearby Decatur Township and northern Morgan County. Rode up a challenging hill that I had avoided since first riding it several years ago (Fox Hill Drive). About 2/3 up, a lady yelled out from her front yard: Hey, nice bike!. I yelled back: Nice -huff!- hill -puff!- you-gasp!-have-huff!-here! - puff!

100 miles on the Shenandoah Valley Bike Festival out of Harrisonburg, VA. This is my fourth time doing this ride. It always ends up being surprisingly hard. About 8500 feet of climbing, but all on rollers, no real long climbs.

There seemed to be a lot of tri-oriented riders doing the ride. I finished up about the same time as one group of them, but after I was getting in the car, they were leaving the parking lot in their running gear to go do a "brick" or whatever they call it. Crazy!

I enjoyed the route last year. I hope they put a sign warning riders of the sharp turn that I mismanaged last year. The pictures tell the story!!

Yesterday, 347 miles, 8922ft of climbing, avg spd 22.6mph. Just kidding.

Yesterday we started the metric portion of the Massbike Summer Century on our vintage tandem. Had to drop out after 11 miles due to a RD problem, danged vintage French components! The sag wagon took me back to my car, I picked up the stricken bike and my sweetie, and we went home. After a quick lunch I did a RD swap and we went back out on our own, ended with 45.35 miles. Not a bad day.

I did something this morning I don't usually get the chance to do, got out before 8AM for a quick solo dash on the Motobecane. From Waltham west to Lincoln, north to Concord, back by way of Lexington. I've always wonder what it would be like to ride rt117's fairly new pavement, so I took advantage of the fact that no one was driving. I was passed by only three cars all the way to Lincoln. Saw a fair number of other cyclists. Ended up with 23.9 miles, 1550ft of climbing, and average speed of 15.9mph. That the best I've ever done on that loop! Um, it's also the first time I've ever done that loop, so I count it as two good things.

Somewhere in Lincoln, taken from the moving bike:

The new pavement on Merritt Rd is wonderful. I did go through three patches of broken glass but fortunately the tires took none. I managed to brush off both tire treads with the heel of my glove while riding without mangling my fingers.

It was a good morning.

Rained early this morning but got out later for a 25 mile suburban/rural/suburban ride on the Screamer with my favorite stoker. A little misty early on but dry the rest of the way.

Funny day today. First of all, I only got in a 15 minute ride yesterday, as when I was slowing down at a traffic light I felt some funny vibrations. When stopped I checked both tires and the rear was significantly softer than it should have been. I went home, took it off, checked it, and found nothing. I pumped it up again and remounted the tire. This morning it seemed to be holding the air so I went out for a ride to see what the influence of weight would do. After 20 minutes I noticed a reduction in tire pressure so stayed in my neighborhood and ended up with a 30 minute ride (I didn't want to risk going too far).
Early afternoon I put in a new tube and rode for 12.2 miles at a 12.7 mph clip. So for the day I rode about 18 miles.

Best regards

They mentioned that the route was changed this year because of a bad curve. Was probably because of you

1.9 miles to Ben's Bikes shop in Sequim WA for drive train tune-up. Very impressed with service there. Best bike shop service I have ever had and at reasonable price! Also have shop in AZ. Will have to make up for short ride.

Doing my usual 18-20 mi/day, 36 on Sunday. I've amassed 627 miles this month, and there's still one day to go. 2207 miles so far this year. But those few extra pounds keep hanging on (nah, cudn't be the potato chips).
I've had the Roubaix 30 days as of today and have put 307 miles on it. Guess maybe I like it.

30 miles over to the Crits and watched a couple races. Stopped by a pizza place and had a nice meal with a couple Avery Ellie Brown Ales and then rode the remaining ride home in the dark with beer slushing around in my tummy.
