Only 17.6 miles today on the Roubaix. Went with a small group (4) of fast riders, not the usual Kiwanis Coffee Riders group, but had to peel off early and return solo. Time restrictions. Going UP Sparks Blvd. was pretty easy with a tailwind. Coming back was tough.

They now have the east parking lot and service road of the park closed for sealing of the pavement so I met the gang at the west parking lot. There was a member of a group that had a very similar looking jersey to mine and I guess the guys thought I was going with the group. I don't know know when they realized it wasn't me, so I ended up doing a 37 mile solo ride. No hurry this morning, just enjoying the bike and road. Started having some shifting issues toward the end of the ride. I guess I'll look into that later this afternoon.

20.5 miles on the Allez. Beautiful riding weather, but it does get a little hot around noon. By then I'm done.
It's funny how out of 3 bikes, 2 high tech carbon fiber, Ultegra/Ultegra-105, the older aluminum Allez (Tiagra-105) is still my favorite. It's a pound heavier than the Tarmac (21) but rides so nice. Perfect machine.

28 miles Tuesday mid-morning, got hot quickly by 8 a.m. Decided to slow down a bit and explore some of the local parks I hadn't visited in years. Funny how easing up just a bit off the effort to accommodate the heat only slowed my average speed slightly but made a big difference in tolerating the heat.

Started out a solo ride but then I lapped the wife while riding in the subdivision and decided to do some miles with her. Then ran into one of the park regulars and got to talking and ended up doing about 15 miles with him, then went back to solo to finish the 51 mile ride. The park still has one of it's service roads closed so I have to do the little city park that's connected to it. It's a really nice ride through that park but the path is nothing but blind curves until you get to the park parking lot. The max safe speed you can do in that park is about 13 mph and I had to do that park three times to make up for the closed service road. I'll really be glad when they finish resurfacing the roads.

Rode to the VA this morning for a blood draw, which means taking the Reno section of the bike path that hasn't been maintained since...forever. Really rough surface, hard on the tires and rider. Then a section of regular traffic road with no bike lane. I endured the dirty looks riding on the sidewalk for a few blocks. Overall it shortened the ride to only 16.9 on the Allez. Now I have to go back for an afternoon appt. - in the car (hot & windy).

Disappointing 33 miles today. Just not feeling the mojo and since the guys want to ride a trainer ride for Six Gap on Sunday, there's no need to rack up the miles beforehand.

84.5 km on the new Marinoni Genius, 838 m elevation. Just to see how well fitted the bike is, I rode it non-stop. Only had to unclip one pedal once at a long traffic light set up for a lane closure on a 2-lane road. sure enough the bike is more than capable of it. I would not have been able to do this on the Cervelo. I don't think I'll do it again though, I was pretty tired by the end of the ride.

Cut my ride short today due to the heat. I don't normally get bothered by it but for some reason, it really got to me this morning. I think part of the problem was waiting almost 40 minutes for my riding buddy to show up. Got in 40 miles and was just feeling whipped. I don't remember last summer's heat being this hard on me.

It's called (Old Age) John_V. Creeps up on us no matter what we do (damnit).

Had a great visit with a different VA Dr. (Romanian(?) lady with a great attitude. According to the labs, other than this horrible RA (currently under control) I'm as healthy as the proverbial horse (Sagittarius-half horse-half man-seems apropos).

19.1 miles today on the new toy (Tarmac) in not-yet-too-hot conditions. Triple digits next week, I'll have to start my rides a little earlier (8AM) while it's still in the 70s.

All I did this week bike-wise, at least since the two tandem rides last weekend, was ride the Grandis to work and back. Tomorrow morning I hope to take the Masi out for a sport ride, not a commute.

If anyone is keeping score, I want my points. 32 miles round trip x 4 = 128 miles.

What do you do when it's hot and muggy all day at work? Go home, grab the Trek 760 with new racing tires and light up a 3mi strava course in 9min flat. Nothing for hills or distance but sure had a blast.

Finally after 3 years off and a whole swag of health problems...
I started riding just before my 60th birthday (2010) and enjoyed it for three years before I suffered a freakish hamstring injury. Long story short - up until a couple of months ago I couldn't even walk more than 1/4 mile without cramping my entire left side up painfully.

I'm still sick (not the leg injury) but I ain't layin' down.

So, today - 3 miles.

Latest toy - Polar M400 fitness watch.
Bike - Jamis Satellite Sport (steel) with tiagra running gear.
Body - old man with lots of problems

Yep! And I'm reminded of it almost constantly.

Had some overcast skies this morning that made the ride very enjoyable. Rode the first 26 miles solo than lapped the wife about two miles from the parking lot. She still had the subdivision to ride so I joined her for the next 12 miles then did one last solo run through the adjoining city park for a 41 mile ride.

Because the day heats up so quickly I need to get out the door by 8AM. The sleep fairies are conspiring against me. Didn't make it out today until after 9AM. (If I could get paid for sleeping I'd be rich - I'm good at it.)
19.4 miles on the Roubaix. Unfortunately the 2nd half of my route is impassable because half the sticker bushes in Nevada are at the beginning of the (separate-from-busy-road) bike path. Nice bike path but impassable (and the city won't do anything about it until the end of September). Cuts about 6 miles and two hills out of the ride.

13 miles plus errands this afternoon, after taking a couple of days off for back and neck spasms. Took it easy, 11 mph average, due to the 100+F heat, but felt good. Barely worked up a sweat despite the heat. The days off did my legs good, felt lively again after several rides of feeling sluggish.
