"Did you ride today?"

Why yes I did. I rode a mile to the store and back to buy a tote for my cargo trailer.
I don't have a car so my bike use is utilitarian, transportation to get to where I need to go or to haul what I need haul and I don't ride for either a workout or for exercise. I ride for neither distance or speed, choosing the shortest route to get to where I need to go and I have no point in riding any faster than I need to ride. But I do enjoy riding the same bike I've ridden for the last 16 years. In the end, I consider how I choose to use my bike as legitimate as the choice of anybody else (because I have read some who infer that you cannot be a real "cyclist" unless you ride fast and far and push yourself with big climbs).

21.3 miles (34.3k). Huge wind storm yesterday afternoon so lotza debris on the bike path, including full sized tree limbs. NDF (Forestry) closed off part of the bike path so my return trip was partly on a busy street with no bike lane. But fortunately it was recently paved so the shoulder was good. I got sprinkled on but not heavily. Storms-a-brewing.

16.19 miles
And that despite the terrible air quality in the PNW due to forest fires.

Finally managed to hit my goal of averaging 16 mph over a 20 mile roller coaster route. Helped that it was a beautifully cool evening with only a slight tailwind that helped my toughest climb and didn't significantly hinder the faster downhill on the opposite side.

We missed you at Night Riders. We didn't ride as fast as you did.

Karen says hi

We're not going as fast as this pic makes it look

I rode. Honest.

Oh. And Brian got a flat. Jay did a great job of standing guard over him.

I've started riding to work when the weather permits. It's only 1/2 mile but it's something, and as y'all know, some is better'n none. My wife and I did 5 miles last night in the dark because we just couldn't sit still in front of the television. Nice cool weather...Ride on!

Nice. Do you have decent lights? I would highly recommend getting some.

A beautiful day for a bike ride, even with Irma headed our way. Got to the park and the wife and I were the only ones in the parking lot. Seen some other cyclists go by and wondered if the footbridge across the creek is finally open. Got to the gully and there was still water across the trail but it was passable. Got to the creek and the footbridge. YES! I had a nice ride through all of the park and the subdivision that's been blocked off to us because of the creek flooding. What a nice 40 mile solo ride. Finally get to ride my old route again. However, as we were getting ready to leave, the park manager comes up to us and informs us that the all county parks will be closed tomorrow until further notice. Thanks Irma.!

27.4 miles (44.1k). That closed off part from the McCarran Bridge to Cottonwood Park wasn't NDF (Forestry), there's no road! They've torn it all down to the dirt to make it 10' wide and new pavement (finally). But they should continue on through Cottonwood Park because of a couple of nasty tree-root-cracks and one of the worst speed-bump crack patches I've ever seen. At 12mph it'll throw you off the seat.

So from that stretch I have to ride the streets, Spice Island Dr. (nice n' wide) to Greg St. (no bike lane) and got stuck between 2 big trucks in the left turn lane onto McCarran, Yikes!

(FYI: McCarran Blvd. is the main thoroughfare in an elipse around Reno/Sparks and is as busy as the Interstate)

36 miles to Raleigh and back yesterday on a quiet, sunny afternoon. With fuel supplies and water running low, schools closed, etc. , people are either leaving the state in droves or hunkering down, so not the normal local activity. I-75 NB is a complete mess in Alachua Co., which is already pretty far north in the state. Unfortunately, in FL there's only one direction in which to flee......

I'll try to get in a ride this afternoon, and Sat AM if the club doesn't cancel its weekly ride. After that, all bets are off.......

24.2 miles (38.9k). The car/pickup/truck traffic has seemed to double over the past couple of weeks. The burners (travelers to the annual Burning Man event) were in town, the rib cookoff, and the balloon races, but most of the increase I've seen on my side of town aren't from those events. Population explosion. Must be from the new Tesla battery factory and related industries bringing thousands of jobs.

They say "the best defense is a good offense" so I ride offensively?

41 very windy miles in pre-hurricane weather, had to keep both hands on the bars at all times. Terribly traffic-clogged back roads as those fleeing south FL look for any route north. We're gonna get hit, it is looking more certain, so perhaps no riding for a while. The club has canceled tomorrow's ride, I may try one more solo if I get out early enough.

48 Miles on another smoky day. Wore my HEPA respirator for the entire ride, saw two riders with respirators but one had a thin mask like a dentist would wear, not very effective. But I did feel vindicated seeing them.
