Got in 26 miles, it was sunny but the wind was Very Chilly and 15 mph constant with quite a few gust's I'm sure up over 20mph. Did what I call my "training ride", it's most uphill or uphill grades. Sure will be glad when March is outhere and the winds start to warm up some. Ya I know, what a wuss but I'm wanting that day in shortsleeve's and no leg warmers so forgive me!

It was about the nicest day of the year so far, mid 60s, sunny and very calm wind. But I was stuck at work until 5 and had to pick my son up from school play practice at 6. It was looking bad. But I got home at 6:20, did a quick change and had the bike on the road by 6:30. I only rode 10 miles at the fastest pace I've done in months. Had a great ride and still got home in time to fix supper before my wife got home from her class.

Love DST! 19 miles after work in 60+F dry conditions. 3/4 through the ride was averaging 17+mph, which is fast by my standards, but my calves were threatening to cramp......backed off a little........finished at 16mph without cramps.

First ride since I crashed last Thursday and ended up spending a night in the hospital. I still have swelling on my left hip the size of a cantaloupe. Makes an "interesting" look in my bike shorts.

Anyway, I managed 21 miles in my neighborhood streets. It's all rollers and mini-hills, so that was 1800 ft of "climbing" in 21 miles.

Had many errands to do today so I got them done on the bike, it was a really nice day, 60F towards mid-day, sunny with only 10 mph. wind, still a bit of a chilly wind but it's MARCH in So. CO. ie: the "Snowiest Month" of the year so no complaints! Put on 27 miles just dink'in from one end of town to the other, getting things done, not bad. The photo is taken on the "low bridge" on the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail over Fountain Creek, (sorry for the crummy quality, it's my cheapie cellphone camera). LOL, the bike looks weird as I put on a new "double legged alumn. kickstand", which brings the front wheel off the ground so it turns all the way to the stop when it's setting on the stand, fyi)

36 miles on a gorgeous day. Temps in the 40's to low 50's this morning ride. Forecast is 2 more days of sunny skies and I will take advantage of that to earn more miles before rain and possibly snow this coming weekend..

This was the first ride this year wherein I left the house in shorts. It was supposed to get up to 74, but never did. But a great ride anyway. 50+ miles with at least 3500 feet of climbing. I felt stronger than I have for a number of months. In fact, each ride seems to be getting better. This picture is at the top of a 3.2 mile climb at about 7% (I'm guessing). As you can see, I wasn't the first one up, but some of these guys started before me and there are some still climbing. (This is not to suggest I am a good climber. Everyone you see here pounds me into the ground on a regular basis.)

From here, there is one more short/steep climb, a break then mostly downhill from Auburn CA to my home in Lincoln - about 23 miles.

30 miles and I just was cruising along enjoying it. Shorts but a long sleeve base with short sleeve jersey.

Ten miles with one very short but steep hill. 60+F Still getting used to the new-in-October bike. Hills are still the big question mark - no problem with the short steep hill. This bike is on autopilot at 15+ but is a small handful to handle at very slow speeds. I guess the solution is to go uphill fast!

It was a coldish, dreary rainy day in Georgia today, so no ride for me. But I did present my April Fools Ride routes to the city police chief and deputy chief and the regional DOT manager. They blessed off on our plans and the city will provide a rolling blockade and block traffic lights for the two miles in the downtown area at the start of the ride. Basically, we got everything we hoped for.

Was out of town for the past couple days but did get to ride in the hills near Williamsport PA with my brother-in-law. We did 10 minute mountain climb repeats on Monday, then did a 40 mile tempo ride yesterday under sunny conditions with bright blue sky. Tonight was back to the usual trainer class with the usual butt kicking administered by the instructor.

Rode 36 mi. solo for St. Pat's Day. Kind of a tough ride though because of constant headwinds and a couple tough hills. Came home and went out to my local pub. One beer, two Irish Whiskey's and a sandwich and I was history.

Our group rides 3 days a week, 20 miles every Thursday. 10 miles out stop for a few minutes then 10 miles back to lunch and our meeting. It's the shortest and slowest ride of the week. Today was crazy. I'm one of the young ones at 61 but we get all ages. It started out slow as usual then I picked it up to about 17 mph into a 8 mph head wind. I waited for the fast guys to go which is normally 20 into the wind. I followed but today it was more like 22+. We sprint the last mile to the turnaround point. I usually lead out at about 30 but the wind slowed me to 25. We waited for the slow pokes but they were real late they had a paceline wheel touch and 2 people went down. They wern't hurt bad just some road rash. So we leave with a nice tail wind and are taking it slow at about 20 when one guy goes on a solo breakaway. We let him get about a half mile ahead and take it to 25. We go 2 or 3 miles and aren't closing so we speed up. I have GPS and we hit 28.4 before we catch him. I can barely hang with the lead guy who is 67 or 68 years old. We see police and fire trucks ahead, looks like a wreak. When we get there it's 2 bikes under a pickup truck. The bikes look familiar, it's 2 of the slow ladies from our group. They seem OK but the police make us get out of the way. 4 people down in 2 crashes in 20 miles very exciting for a group of mostly 65+ bicyclists.

At the risk of upsetting some of the youngsters here, it used to drive me nuts when we'd have this kind of great, early spring-like weather all week and then it would turn crappy on the weekend -- just like it's going to do here. This is the best part of retirement: being able to take advantage of the weather when it's happening!

So yesterday morning I ran 10 miles on a rather hilly route with a few buddies, went to a late breakfast with them, recovered for a couple of hours, then took the road bike out for the first time to the tune of 23 miles to complete my "brick" (I have no idea why it's called that, but that's the term). Today it was a walk on the trail with my wife, and tomorrow a midday group road ride. It's all good ... at least until the weekend.

today's 33+ mile ride was my first with the Colorado Springs Cycling Club (CSCC), since 2005. It was a tough one as they set a pace a bit faster than my normal and they took us up and over this unreal 4 stage HILL!! Man it was a killer, the only thing that didn't make me feel to bad, that I had to get off and walk the bike a bit was I made it farther than most of the group before I started walking the last steep incline before the top! Not bad for the guy with the least amount of "conditioning" and the "heaviest bicycle" It was nice to ride in a group again, it's been 5 years.

This group is kinda neat as it's a Thursday ride, called the Old Pharts Ride, most the guys and gal's are retired and older, LOL, at 54, I might be the "baby of the group"! Well it's supposed to "Winter Storm" tonight, Friday and Saturday so it was great to get a "taste" of Spring for a few days!

One of the club members posted that he wanted to do a slow 12 mile ride starting at a spot out in the boonies today after work. A new rider replied that she wanted to join in. It was an 11 mile ride from my house to his starting point, so the full ride was 34 miles for me. Their pace was not fast by any means, but not so slow as to be annoying. It was a very pleasant day with temps in the mid 60s dropping to the upper 50s by the time I got home just as the sun was dropping below the trees. There was plenty of wildlife along the road today. We saw a big group of about 20 wild turkeys in a clearing beside the road. A large owl flew across the road just ahead of me on the way home and I saw about a dozen deer leaving a clearing and going into the woods.

Yesterday evening was a hard ride. I rode 5 miles to a local cemetary and did a 1.25 hr Zone 3 interval around the .86 mile crit course I set using the drives in the graveyard. One of my riding buddies was also riding the interval. We didn't ride together as he kept going a little harder than my Z3 pace, then would drift back and draft me a lap or two, but we stayed close until the last 10 minutes where we took turns leading laps. Riding the same .86 mile lap can be mind numbing but it is good practice for crit races with tight turns and wash, rinse and repeat cycles for what seems forever. I kept my HR in the upper end of Z3 (around 148-150) the entire time and refrained from racing my buddy. My average speed for the 1.25 hr interval was 21.1 mph, a new record for the course. I'm feeling really good about having my ankle fused on Dec 1st and that I've fully recovered my fitness and even have better from now that the ankle pain is gone.
