28 miles today with an old friend - don't mean old but high school buddy - I guess that would mean we are both old..........This is the fellow who showed me how to overhaul a headset in about 1976.
Anyway, it turned WARM today for the first time this Spring. Beautiful day for a ride.

65+ miles with over 5000' of climbing....including an 8 mile climb up an 8% grade. I actually passed a lot of riders on the climb and I'm a slow climber. All my training rides must be paying off.

I rode 28 miles today. My route took me out to a lake (Lake Britton) in Nor Cal. It was 75 degrees F and the second day of wearing shorts. It was a great day for a ride.

Rode 55 miles with friends in the Santa Ynez Valley, CA. The ride included Foxen Canyon, which will be featured in one of the stages of this year's ToC. A good day of riding, great friends, beautiful vistas and fantastic weather!

Did a partial Tierra Bella Century: 75 miles, 5500' of climbing. I had some previous commitments, but finishing would have been painful in any event. Weather was cool, even by the time I got to the big climb. Felt good about my effort even though I didn't feel at the start as though I had much in my legs.

Got my first 100-mile ride of the year in on a Potomac Pedalers ride from Walkersville up to Gettysburg:

Untitled by jimf22003 at Garmin Connect - Details

It was billed as a flat ride, and it was relatively speaking, but all the rollers still added up to 5.5K of elevation gain. The wind was out of the south, which is not the prevailing pattern, so I was fighting the wind most of the way back. Ended up with a pretty impressive sunburn on my forearms. I figured I would be the last of the century riders out on the road, but there were still 6 or 7 cars in the parking lot when I got back, so i must have been faster than at least a few of them

I love reading the ride reports. If I had the time and money I would love to spend it visiting all the interesting places that everyone is riding.

For me Saturday was yard work most of the day with a nice 20 mile ride just before dinner. I rode a loop I've only done once, but the opposite direction. Amazing how different a ride can be the opposite direction.

Rode Thursday,Friday, Saturday and today. Total mileage 153 on mostly flat roads here in Northern FL. The Defy 0 absolutely kills the roads. Today was more of a recovery ride, but I did get in 30. I wish I could do this every day.

(I'm a newbie to the bike world) Rode Yount Mill Rd (napa valley)-(less than 5 miles) maiden voyage really....couldn't do anything last week and half since falling on my knee in front of my own drive-way (concentrating too hard getting left foot clipped in-not realizing the bike had come to a dead stop) after owning the bike less than a week....Husband (280 lbs) went too (specialized sirrus hybrid). I'm thinking about selling my Specialized Dolce Elite road bike for a Specialized vita hybrid. I'm scared of hitting a bump in the road.

Yep! I did 5 miles on my old TREK mountain bike last week, trying out a walking/biking path at a local park. Went back with one of my road bikes this week and did 10 miles.

I have been off the bikes for about a year or more mostly, recuperating from a couple of injuries - first, a broken kneecap, then a sprained rotator cuff. And once you pass that magical 60-year mark, it seems like you don't bounce back from those injuries so fast.

I used to not like riding on MUPs - I always found them to be boring, and I worry about the walkers with dogs on leashes and coming up behind folks using their music players - but I tried this MUP at a county rec department park near my home and come to actually enjoy it. Unlike most of these trails, this one is very clean and well maintained, and has very few long boring straights. Lots of curves and little bridges to cross, and at only one point does it cross a road. It runs around the entire perimeter of the park, passing several baseball and soccer fields, and about 1/4 of the trail runs along the banks of the Ohio River. Total length is 1-1/4 miles.

Getting back in shape and hope to lose the 15 or 20 pounds that I picked up during my recuperation.

Rode the 53 mile return ride of the MS 150. Brutal headwinds the whole route. Overall a great weekend of riding, despite the winds on both days. Next charity ride is on May 3rd, another 50 miler.

45 mile ride today. I rode the Butler-Freaport trail end-to-end and back from the Freaport (Pennsylvania) trail head. Given harsh winter, the trail was in average condition. This is a crushed limestone trail with a steady but steep (for a rail-trail) but I was able to average 12.3 mph on the ride.

30 yesterday and 18 today. 20-25mph head winds heading out. Hit 34mph on the flats with my steel Vaya on the way back. Wish I always had a 25mph tail wind.

29 miles this afternoon on the Screamer with my Permanent Stoker. Pretty windy but, luckily, very little direct headwind. Warm, too!
Rode through the Richmond Hills subdivision on the way back, to see how that is looking. (Home blown up for insurance money a year and a half ago, resulting in deaths of neighbors and multiple homes destroyed. Trials still in the future.) Crime scene property still fenced off and properties on both sides and nearby still empty. Some homes have been rebuilt.

Did a 50-mile "hair of the dog" ride as a "recovery" from Saturday's century. Point of Rocks, MD out and around Poolesville and back. Tons and tons of riders out and about.

My legs were a bit stiff and sore but not too bad. Worst part was the "crease" area of my butt cheeks. Need to work on the callouses a bit with more time in the saddle.

I did my first non-commute, non-tandem ride yesterday, about 55 miles. On the return I could have sworn the chainrings got larger. Or the cogs smaller.

It took a bit more time this morning for my legs to stop feeling heavy at the start of my commute.

A short stop for munching yesterday:

Thundersorms coming in limited me to another 16.5 mile ride this afternoon. Warm temps but the rain was cold feeling, with the winds, so I took a trun around and headed back home.

I got home from my commute a while ago. It was brutal. Headwinds over 20mph, gusting up near 30. I had to use my low gear in spots just to keep moving forward. If I hadn't been running with the brakes on I might have started going backwards.

It was Saturday, first outdoor ride of the season, 34 mi. I had hit a wall on the trainer, was doing 1 1/2 hrs, then had been struggling to make 35-40 min.

2.5 hour ride yesterday in and around Northampton Mass. And 2 loops of Mt Tom reserve park, mostly climbs 39-26 ...Very windy averaged 23kph.
Tomorrow will be the 1st long day of the season. 3.5 to 4 hr ride in the hills in around Ct. quiet corner. Hampton/Storrs/Willington/Woodstock.
forecast is for high 40's mid 50's.... Perfect temps for a lot of hill work ....
( Aim is to return to racing as a Cat II full on by next season... )
Am definitely not missing riding in the snow and cold throughout this past winter's over prolonged stay.....

56 miles biking in my 70.3 triathlon on Sunday. Into the wind heading out and a tail wind gift heading back.

Still hurting today but got out with the guys. 20+mph winds and only out front for 5 of the 32 miles we did together. Added an additional 20 miles on my own.
