A chilly but beautiful VeteransDay ride. Three flats this month on three different bikes. It must be national Shatter your glass bottles on the bike path Month. Free breakfast at Denny's, climbed McCarran (major blvd—it's like a fwy with stoplights) and back to complete 10 more miles for a total of 18—without getting run over. I'm down to one patch left (Damned drunken pedestrians!)

21.50 miles this afternoon, cloudy most of the time. Cold front comes through tonight with the big temperature differential, should be interesting after seeing video of the plains and Mid-west today.

Did the usual after-work ride down to DC and across over near the Jefferson Memorial and did a lap on Hains Point. About 31 miles total.

It was just getting dark, and I could see the lights and sounds over the way as they were getting ready for last night's "Concert for Valor" on the Mall. I actually expected a lot more foot traffic on the Mt Vernon trail because all of the roads near the concert were closed off, but I guess it was too far for most people to walk, or they took the metro or something.

What a beautiful, warm night for a bike ride though.

A very frustrating, 35 miles today. The wind just wore me out and my rear derailleur was acting up all morning. Time to relax and unwind. Tomorrow is another ride.

25 miles today, temperature fell 8ºF while I was riding this afternoon. Our first freeze for the season is forecast to come tomorrow night. High tomorrow's high is forecast to be 55ºF. After seeing the news and the temps in Denver, Colorado and Crested Butte, Montana, I am going to feel warm while I am out.

Late afternoon ride, unusual for me. Did 13.4 miles out and back, 800' of climbing. It's nice to have a short ride out of my house with a bit of climbing.

Ride was 20.15 miles this afternoon, I took yesterday as the week's rest day. Fantastic, but cool day to ride with the blue bowl skies overhead and no humidity I could feel. High today was 48ºF, wind chill was 35ºF, no problems with kit being adequate, thankfully. Weekend looks nice, too.

Did my "daehlluB ed rouT eL" as far as our local Wally World. Wasn't going to wait an hour for my thyroid med (the line was that long), so left and went my usual roundabout.

A big contrast from this morning's weather and yesterday's chilly and wet morning. Got in a great 45 mile ride with my buddies, Lou and Frank, on a picture perfect day, even if my GPS did lock up on me, losing some data.

It most certainly was a glorious morning 1.75 hours south of you. 5 miles to LBS, 32 miles with the group then 15 miles of cool down. Tomorrow should be a tad warmer and looking for a 80+ mile morning.

Our spectacularly mild mid-November weather provided another fine day to ride. The Sacramento Valley was encased in Tule Fog, and the scattered clouds kept the temps in the low 60's. I'm making the best of the drought, but damn, I wish it would rain lots.

Upper 30's, cloudy, breezy but no precipitation and the roads are dry. Right now. Supposed to snow tonight.
Ten miles before the snow.

DANG, was hoping for 80 today but wound up with 79.77. Was on my reassembled, this Friday, '83 Paramount built back up as a heavy duty trainer and it weighs in at 26 pounds so maybe I should call it 80.

Another 25.1 mile ride, different route today. Overcast skies, but mild temperatures today, actually comfortable, 68ºF, and moderate humidity. The next cold front is due through tomorrow, the prediction is for record lows Monday and Tuesday night/morning. I'll have the winter kit at the ready.

Took some time away from the bike for a mental and physical break. Did all the anti healthy stuff but it was mentally fun. Started back this week with some night riding of a measly 8 miles Tuesday night (just wasn't into it) and then 20 miles Thursday night. I did get in 60 miles today. I have a LONG ways to go to be able to do the weekly 100 milers with the guys on weekends in December......

We haven't managed to get out for the past few weeks, too many commitments. I tried to make up for it today. Yesterday I turned 66 but our band had to play a gig, so I rode a birthday ride today.

I'd worked out a route on DeLorme TopoNAm that covered areas I'd never ridden before. Some could have been quite hilly. After the late night I wasn't sure whether I'd have the energy to pull off the ride I'd planned. Heading out into unknown territory on unknown energy is slightly scary. Plus the temperature was cold, upper 30's when I left the house at 10AM.

I'm happy to say I pulled it off! I rode the Motobecane 72.2 miles, Waltham west to Bolton, northeast to Chelmsford, south then east back home. Moving average speed 14.0mph, 6hrs9min, max speed 34.0mph.

Channeling my inner @JJScaliger, here's a pic of a cemetery in Sudbury:

And a cemetery in Bolton, just inside I495:

The run north was just west of I495. At one point a road I intend to take looked like a business access road, was signed as "private", and not a through road, leading to a Bolton recreation field. But the map had routed me that way and the road I'd been on was signed as a dead end. It seemed clear though, and I was thinkin' if I couldn't get through I might have to make a loooong detour with a hop east back over I495 which would force me to depart from my route. Fortunately the far end was blocked with a swinging gate which a bike could get around easily. Obviously "they" had intended that road to provide access from two directions without it being used as a connecting road.

The day turned out cold but not uncomfortable. Much of the run was surreal, with light traffic, an overcast sky. When I was headed north with a slight tailwind all was nearly silent, the only sound the quiet whisper of Vittoria sew-ups on clean pavement. Of course the payback on ride back south was a headwind and the steady roar of air past my ears.

A quick pic on the return, at Heart Pond in Chelmsford:

When I got home my sweetie had a surprise birthday party waiting for me.

26 miles with some small rolling hills. I'm going to do my birthday ride the day after Thanksgiving (69 miles) when I'm properly fueled up; excessive fueling is my only hope.
