Carmic0, no shame towards your commute, the twice a week is much better than no rides at all. Welcome to the 50+ Forum/asylum.

We've gotten most of a foot of snow today. This is the season's first really hazardous day on the roads and there is a *lot* of learning going on out there, today. Saw a bunch of vehicles off the road, three of 'em with wheels not pointed at the ground, lots of drivers busy learning that Summer tires, deep snow and mountain roads don't mix well. Same as it ever was. We tell the new comers you gotta take this serious, but it's a complete waste of breath for most. Got home from work, power promptly went out occasioning another trip out to fill gas cans for the genny.

So I've been flogging my trainer for the last 6 weeks with the loss of reliable riding weather and useful daylight.

Not as good as real riding, but I cranked out an FTP test this afternoon (the right way: avg last 20 minutes of a 30 minute time trial). My informal performance goal for 2015 is a 25 mph 25 mile TT, on my road bike without any aero-weenie ****. Well, maybe I'll buy a jersey that doesn't flap. And maybe (big maybe) I'll allow myself aero-bars if I can find some that I like (i.e. that don't feel scary unstable). For this I reckon I need a 300+ FTP (less if I go aero bar). I'm at 261W now, up from 250 in October. Followed up the FTP test with a half hour at 89% of the new FTP ("sweet spot" they call it, "sweat spot" is more accurate). Chip, chip, chip. Not bad progress for the guy that couldn't climb a 170' / 0.5 mi hill all the way to the top last March.

20.55 miles, had to shorten things up so we could go to a family get together, for dinner.

11-25-14 Trying to get a ride in before heading South for Thanksgiving. Light rain on/off , wind, about 60F. Plastic bag on saddly, rain jacket on me.
Great ride ,bike trail, 28 mi. Feet got wet and were cold while riding. How do others keep their feet dry/warm in wet/rain?
Day before I rode the indoor exercise bike for hour. I'd rather take a beating but it was pouring outside.

Seems like the next ride on the real bike after a day on the exercise bike is Always a great ride. I don't know it the exercise machine helps my cadence? or I'm just so relieved to be on the road I just imagine things are better. Anyone else ever notice this?

Happy Hollidays All.

Picked a good week to be on vacation. Back home 4" of snow, although I hear it's melting already. Been riding every day this week, typically 26 miles or so. Today was a BD ride of 55 plus 2 extra miles. Beautiful sunny AZ skies, pleasant temperatures, and just a light breeze ... pretty much perfect weather for a BD ride. Tomorrow is a promised ride with my wife, a relaxed ride at her pace. I'm good with that.

A day late Happy Birthday and nice riding. Enjoy the ride with your wife.

After yesterday's rapid ride it was a slow and easy 20 miler starting at 46F this AM. No riding tomorrow but Space Coast Half Marathon on Sunday.

25+ miles on a sunny, cool afternoon, felt nice to be out pedaling and enjoying the air. Yesterday was bagged since the family Thanksgiving lunch for Monica's family at our place, and cleaning up everything, ran longer than I expected.

65 coooold miles, about 5K of climbing. I don't think I would want to wear too much more clothing, but I was right on the edge of uncomfortableness all day. Low of about 25 degrees, high of about 35. At least there was a little bit of sun, which was nice. You can see the sun lighting up the mountains ahead in this pic from the ride:

A gorgeous day here with temps in the 70s and lots of sunshine. My buddy Lou and I ended up doing 62 miles at the Suncoast Trail since our normal riding place is underwater in several places.

Rode 25.50 miles this afternoon, mostly sunny, high on the mid 60's with a slight SW wind. The shady sections were still chilly, but nothing that needed a jacket or extra clothing.

Home to SF Dam and then up the SGRT to 39, 39 to GMR and then home. 53 mi.

it was a bit chilly. Didn't take the jacket off till after Williams camp,. but a brilliantly sunny day.

Had my side of the road to myself from the E fork bridge on. Looked like all the riders and rice rockets were going up from Glendora and down the E fork.

I didn't get out today, due to snow and ice..

I did get out on Thanksgiving in the morning for 39 miles. I managed to pass the 6,000 mile mark for the year on that ride. I am thankful for that.

10 miles this afternoon in almost-50F weather, but windy. Tailwind helped roll at 23mph for a flat, straight mile. (Tailwind? I didn't feel no wind.)

Absolutely gorgeous! Jim, thank you for sacrificing yourself to the cold in order to take this photo for us.

218 miles for the week with 59 today. One more week of vacation left

57 miles, 5K of climbing, from Buena Vista to Natural Bridge and back via Lexington. I think there was one stretch of about 3 or 4 miles that was nice and flat. I could use a little more of that once in awhile

It was supposed to warm up to near 50, but I don't think it ever broke 40. Took a wrong turn and ended up riding on Rt 11 for 5 or 6 miles, which wasn't too bad. I love when I start to know an area well enough that I don't need to make elaborate route planning decisions ahead of time, and can switch plans while out on the road, and still not end up in Siberia or someplace

A picture perfect day for a great ride with the Sunday Bicycle Riders Group. Haven't ridden with them in quite a while and today they were doing one of my favorite routes so my buddy Lou, his dad and I went and did a really nice 35 miles with them.

Warmer today with the south winds coming in off of the Gulf, so the humidity was up to nearly 96% at times, today. Rode 25.50 miles this afternoon. After meeting Miss Kenton and Mr. Kenton last night, for dinner, riding was required for me, of course.
