Bike Order?
Hi,
I realize many people are sold on only buying at the LBS but this bike isa nice looking bike for the price has all the components of a much more expensive bike,
the Moterbane USA says they will replace any frame that fails as long as it wasn't bent sideways( impact with Crate?)
https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...rtalpro_09.htm
I have a yellow bike already and requires considerable cleaning due to yellow shows dust , dirt, grime.
may opt for black..
Doug
anyone buy this bike??

I find that colored duct tape hides dirt nicely.

As the owner of a yellow bike, I can say with confidence, yellow is the faster color.

I got and Immortal Pro in March and I love it. Bike arrived on time and in perfect shape. I have no regrets, and I Highly recommend it to the right person. Note that there is some assembly, and expect to have to do some adjustments, and true the wheels, or take it to a good LBS and spend $100.
Note that unless they got a new shipment in, your size may not be available in black. I was going to black but they were out in 56cm. I love the yellow. And it is the fastest color.
I also spend $100 and got a professional fit. Well worth it. Highly recommended.
Just got new wheels, the Blackrace set from Bike Wheel Warehouse. The stock Shimano WH R500s are very heavy but serviceable. The Blacerace set is over a pound lighter, and faster. I'm going to put some 700 x 28s on the 500s and use it for some "off road" rides on dirt and gravel roads in the everglades.
Consider also the Bottecchia available on ebay. It's the same company (bikesdirect.) The Bottecchia is a compact frame, so the sizing is a little different from the Immortal which is a classic straight bar.
So long as you can do the work needed, or are willing to spend the $100 or so to get it tuned and adjusted, you will get a great bike for a great price. And don't forget the pro fit. I thought I had my bike "dialed in" but I was getting some pains here and there. The fitting tech said "boy, this bike is really close. Most of the ones I see are way out" Despite that, the little changes he made made a big difference and both comfort and speed. Amazing.
Anyway, good luck. If you can do what I said, pull the trigger.
Expect to hear a lot of BD detractors. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Green and Red make Yellow? Not in paint!
This a totally inaacurate statement. Yellow is a created by mixing red and green. Frogs and lizards are green and they are very slow. Red on the other hand is a very fast color. You may think yellow is fast, this comes from the red contribution, pure red is much faster
Have fun on the ride!

You gotta be careful starting a thread about BikesDirect on Bikesforum...usually they (the threads) blow up.
In any case, I noticed they now have a line of bikes with "Century" in the title that purports to compete with the (50+ favorite) Specialized Roubaix. That is, a carbon fiber bike with a more upright riding position to help with comfort on longer rides.
https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/..._08_carbon.htm
Comes with a triple, if you're interested -- one at $1295 and another at $1795.

FWIW, my friend, a former USA National Road Team member, Olympic alternate, World Cross Medalist rides a BD bike. He's a better rider than I could ever dream of being and kicks butt on that bike. If there is a bike that fits and has what you want I'm sure it would be fine.

My bike is half-yellow and I've been told I'm half-fast. I think that's what they said.

As an outsider- you either love BD or you don't. I have no chance of trying so can't comment.
The bikes do seem to be cheap and nothing seems out of place on the spec of the bike- But advertised as ULTEGRA/ 105. Not much Ultegra fitted on this one. The whels are shimano and shimano do some good wheels. Don't think this set is one of the better ones though. Couple of other things I am not certain about aswell and I would like to check out by test riding which is not possible if buying by mail order. Then the price- not bad for a C.F. Ultegra equipped Shimano wheeled bike- but no where near the $2595 that they list as full retail price. For far less than the retail I could get a known quality bike like a Giant Defy Advanced 3 and It is getting near sale time so could probably get near the asking price for the BD bike.

So clever marketing possibly, but on looking a bit deeper at the spec of the bike, and not being able to look at one- get the feel of one or test ride- It could be an expensive mistake. Or it could be the best bike you have ever had.

The Bottecchia is a very nice bike and has identical geometry and frame sizes as the Century Elite/Pro/Team models from BD.
The only significant difference (other than graphics) with the Bottecchia is the compact double chain ring vs the triple on the Century models.
