Oops!!

Goofed the poll. Please DISREGARD the "more than"

Sadly, one cannot edit a poll - but a mod can!

Ron H - HELP!!
Yeah, I probably voted wrong. I do 50 miles per day every day. That is 350 miles per week.
In Florida it goes up to 70 miles per day. that is 490 miles per week.
There are some 100 milers but they are infrequent.

Ron H tried to edit the poll, but the software would not let him

However, all-in-all, it does give an idea of the range in riding.

I have been averaging 60-100 miles/wk, generally 15-30 miles on each day that I ride.

What strikes me about the poll results so far is that while we often read interesting posts of the lllooonnnggg rides, almost everyone is typically riding rides of less than 30 miles (~45%%), or between 30-75 (again, ~45%).

Have to agree. Last year- barring the odd organised ride of 100 miles or a metric- most of my rides were done for training. 40 to 60 on sundays and a couple of strenuous 20 milers in the week.

This year and I have been lucky to get 60 miles in over a week. That has been a 30 to 40 on sundays and "Possibly" a couple at most short rides to see if the pedals have rusted up.

I ride just about every day, but often those rides are short, sometimes under 5 miles.

Longer rides are usually on the weekend and range from 20-70 miles depending on who I'm riding with.

I voted 'Other'. Since I work rotating shifts with rotating weekends I can't even come close to a ride schedule, hell I can't even have a life schedule. I ride distances that are restricted by the amount of time I can spare on the bike on any given day. Some days I don't even get the bike out of the garage, other days I ride a century.

My scheduled work week consists of four 12.5 hr. shifts and I often get called in for one and occasionally two extra shifts.

All that being said, (all my excuses being listed ) I logged the following for the past three months:
June...607 miles
July....620 miles
Aug....540 miles so far, no doubt it'll be another 600+ month as I have 60 miles worth of commutes alone between now and Aug 31st.
EDIT: 08/25/2009.....615 miles, think 700 miles for August...I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

Some of those rides were 5 miles, some were 100+ miles and most were any and everywhere in between.

I am going to start riding a lot less in Sept as I have a Stockade fence to build and stain now that we've shaken free of the daily rain pattern we were stuck in for six weeks or more. Oh, and a garage door to fabricate and hang...well maybe, we'll see.

Great thread Dnver! Lots of interesting tidbits of info.

100-150 road miles on Sat and Sun
Mon and Thurs nights training on the velodrome ~40-50 miles (Thurs 2 hr session behind a motorcycle).
Tues Night Racing on the velodrome 20-25 miles usually average 24-26 mph
Our velodrome season runs from the first week of April to the end of September. I'm ready for it to end.

Shorter rides of 25-35 miles, 3-4 times per week PLUS one medium-to-longer 60-100 ride on a weekend.

I am a daily, year round commuter with just over 7900 miles on the road this year. My lowest monthly total was for March with 650 miles when I was traveling out of the country for two weeks. That puts my weekly average at around 250 miles. Most work days I ride between 20 and 35 miles and I try to get in at least one weekend ride of more than 50 miles. So far I have six days of rides this year that were over 75 miles (five centuries and an 83 miler). Have ridden on 214 of the 237 days this year.

I typically ride the road 5-6 days per week that always ends with a weekend century. Two days are 60 mile cruises in the country, one is a 90 minute hill repeat and one is an hour recovery ride. If I ride a 6th, it is on a MTB for 2 hours of tough single track with my LBS group.

Last three months my average weekly ride is 180-200 miles. I try to do at least 30 every night after work and a longer one or two on the weekends. I miss a few days here and there due to weather/work/whatever too.

I cannot believe some of the incredibly high weekly, monthly mileage some of you are doing. I retired in January and looked forward to tripling my '08 mileage which was 1136 miles. At this point I am only at 1,000+ miles for '09 so the goal isn't looking good. No excuses just taking a lot of days off I guess. Longest ride this year 40+ a couple of times. Will do a metric next month and hopefully a century before the season ends. Most of my rides have been between 15 and 30 miles this season.

This year each week I've been doing one 35-40 mi. ride at 16+ mph, one 15 mi. TT at 17+ mph and at least one 20-30 mi. ride in the 15.5-16.5 mph range. I try to vary between a leisurely ride with my gf and a "bust my butt" solo ride on my TT routes. I've done significantly less miles this year but am actually faster. Go figure. I'm 63 btw.

I usually leave the house about 8:30 and get back by 11:30 or 12. I was getting pretty tore up when riding 50 miles and I cut it down to 35 to 40, but I think I got a handle on it now. I'm going to try a few 40 mile rides next week. The week after next, I'm heading north for 10 days and I hope it cools off by the time I get back.
They have a lot of riders that leave out of Fulshire on Saturdays and Sundays. I did 25 miles today just to try my new pedaling out and I think I'm going to finally get it. I think with all the saddle sores I got, I should be pretty callous by now. Anyhow, I'll talk to you later.
