Pie Ride Rules?

Okay, I would like to do the pie ride and have read the "traditions" regarding it, however, the guidelines are rather vague. I don't want to be DISQUALIPIED for not following rules. Must I be part of a group or can I do my own ride with just a witness? Will you take me at my word or is the "if there are no pix it doesn't exist" rule in effect? If so, does my bike and the pie have to be in photo together?

Rules- there are no rules- it is part of the 50+ forum that PIE rules the forum.

15 mile ride- Pie to be had on the ride- whether you bought one with you from home (But if it is home made- the postage gets expensive posting one to DnvrFox for him verify that it is good enough) or you get one on the ride.

Pics are appreciated and the bike and scenery come into play for effect., Short write up of the ride helps but the main thing is to eat pie on a ride that you will enjoy doing.

Attachment is of my PIE on the 2007 ride.

Duplicated posting that will not delete- but main thing is to enjoy the PIE.

Solo, group or any other way you can figure it out is OK. I do mine solo.

The picture is critical - to share the glory of your pie with the rest of us.

I generally take a photo of my odometer as proof, also.

But, in the final analysis, your word is good. Just not as much fun.

Kudos for the brilliant composition of the pie shot here! Truly a work of art. Your bike actually appears to be sneaking up for a nibble of that pie! Gives me me something to aspire to.

I have forgotten the date rule for the pie ride.

Basic rule of the western hemisphere - Mince Meat is not pie, it will land you in pie jail if you make or order it in conection with cycling.

This isn't really a valid question.

As you can see from the above, we don't have any hard and fast "rules". They're really more like "guidelines". One of our UK posters, for example, even refers to something that's made with beef kidney as "pie". Can you imagine?

The bottom line is that no matter what you do, we're going to make fun of you and that's a good thing. Who'd want to join any group that would accept the likes of me with no reservations.

I didn't think we needed reservations.

So it's ride, eat pie, photograph it, be mocked. I am well experienced in all these things. I'm going to go for it. Can I assume the submission of my photos licenses me to mock, as well?

Here's a space saving tip for any bike ride, instead of a banana in your jersey pocket, banana cream pie at the cafe, two pieces if it's a hot and long ride.

Do we get to "Triple Up" if we're wearing our 50+ jersey and eating blueberry pie

1. 15 mile ride = 1 slice

2. Celebrating 50+ Forum's fifth anniversary = a la mode, with a candle.

3. 50+ jersey = 1 additional slice

4. Another 15 miles = 1 more slice

Hi, I have been lurking here since early spring. I started riding again after many years. My wife started riding with me and we can usually get at least 4 rides in a week. I thought this was the right time to say hello and tell you I'm here every night reading about all of you. Well I want to formally request an induction into the club for my wife and me. As an offering, "my dues" so to speak, I am planning a 35 mile during "pie-weekend". We plan to stop and during the ride and eat pie to celebrate - as we have been taught. Photos to follow. Thank you all for everything I have learned so far from you...Oh and I WILL definitely be buying us 50+ jerseys when they go on sale again.

Last year, I had to settle for a "Little Debbie" pre-packaged pie from Safeway, eaten on my back porch. It still tasted good. I already know where I'm going this year, and plan to drag along my buddies with me.

Hey, I'd have a piece of Mincemeat pie just to be a rebel, except I live in one of the self-proclaimed "Blueberry Capitals of the Universe" (Southern NJ), and I will be riding past blueberry fields so I am pretty morally obligated to go blueberry.
