Road Bike Forums

I've finally decided to avoid the road bike forums for good. What I often found there was a small group of individuals who dominate the conversation. So-called experts who can't discuss a subject because they are always right.
This forum is really a breath of fresh air. Information in this forum is very valuable to those of us trying to learn. Along with this, there seems a real sense of community that doesn't exist on any other board which I have monitored. The closest thing to insult I've seen on this forum is a friendly joke. Rarely a flame.
I only hope that I can feel a part of this community soon.

I've heard about the Road Cycling forum but have only visited briefly.

Question: Are you chronologically entitled to hang out here? Gotta be at least in the ballpark.

One Fifty Plus rule: Do not call someone else a moran unless you can actually spell the word write.
Or maybe that rule is not to use the word unless you misspell it. Dang it! Can't remember the rule!

Fifty Plus rule #2: If your memory is as good as it ever was, get out of here!

I sorta like the road forum, but have been looking forward (really) to hanging out here. T minus 7 months till 50!

I don't find it altogether bad. There are the testosterone charged wannabe racer guys but the group on the whole is pretty good. It isn't a place for the thin skinned though.

I mainly look at the road cycling section, then commuting, then clyde or 50+ or Northern California.

I frequent other boards for SCUBA, freediving, spearfishing, fishing, skiing.

There does seem to be more "experts" on this board that desire to tell others their point of view. I have picked up some very good advice on this board though.

Reading botto's posts are like passing a large tarry stool.

Sometimes you're in the mood for it.

Sometimes you're not.

There are a few guys like that over there.

This forum is usually my first stop, but I still spend some time on the Road Forum. More selective about which threads to read than I used to be, though.

You could come hang out in P&R....:innocent: Not for the faint of heart though, and not as much fun as it used to be.

It's much more pleasent here.

Ewww! And :roflmao2: simultaneously!

Either way, thanks for the laugh.

I've gotten some good information from the Race sub-forum. I take the posturing -- or is it posing? -- with a grain of salt. It can get harsh on the Road.

I detect some pilot fish on the 50+ Forum. Wonder if the whole school from that other forum will be showing up soon.

I go on the Road Bike Forum occasionally. My general rule is that any poster who refers to himself in the third person (and it's always a guy over there) gets put on my ignore list. Makes life there much more tolerable.

botto's like the son I never had.

Except I have a son. But he's not like botto. So I guess botto really is like one I've never had.

Thank goodness because I have enough troubles as it is.

considering your complete lack of humor, wit, and intelligence, i'd like to meet your wife.

It took me a while, but I now find the Road Forum to be a constant source of amusement.

The Signal to Noise ratio is not very high, but it can be laugh-out-loud funny.

Yeah, and you've hit my high points.

Now excuse me while I go make fun of myself in front of the mirror. You forgot to mention that I'm also butt-ugly.

True sometimes, but there are some good people there. Seems to be more idiots than there used to be, though. Sometimes there is some funny stuff on road, too.

eshvanu 09-06-09 06:27 PM

The trick, for me, is learning which threads to click, and which to ignore. Even on the best of boards, there are dillweeds.

There are some Arrogant Roadie Pr!cks there, but also some people who are very knowledgeable. I posted questions in the Lounge on topics from choosing a laptop computer to painting my kitchen cabinets to having a new well drilled, and I always got prompt, accurate answers from other members. After 40 years of cycling, I don't have a lot of bike-related questions, but there's a lot of stuff I don't know about, and that was a good source.
How come I'm not there right now? Lifetime ban for a political comment a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the new moderator is one of the Arrogant Roadie Pr!cks.

Maybe I missed something, but I think the discussion was about the Road section here on bikeforums.net, not the other separate road bike forum.

I can't remember my memory ever being better than it is now. Does that mean I qualify?
