Here's what I do:

- Put photo somewhere on my hard drive where it's easy to find.
- Go to the site www.tinypic.com.
- Follow instructions to upload a photo - click "Browse" to locate the photo on my hard drive; choose "Message boards" as the desired format; then hit "upload"
- That generates a URL where the photo is now stored at TinyPic.com
- Copy and paste the URL into a post at BikeForums.

There are other ways to do it, which I'm sure will follow my post. But I find that the fastest and most reliable.

Result: (not my bike, alas...)

Just had to try that out for myself. I tried it before, but the picture always showed up in my post about the size of a wall hanging.

I was missing that step of re sizing the photo. Thanks for that.

Sizing the picture correctly is an important step. That can be done with a variety of graphics programs, even Microsoft Paint. I think that BengeBoy listed a good set of instructions. I'm lucky in this respect, I have my own website, so I just stick my images there.

One thing that I think that Benge Boy should have explained a little better was that once you have the URL address, you come to Bike Forums, create your message and then select the Insert Image logo (Mountains with the Yellow Sky) on this website. and the paste the text of the URL into that dialog box.

My URLs are different, because the website I'm grabbing them from, my own, is a different address, but the steps are the same.

Hmmm...I just skip that entirely.

I just copy the URL from Tinypic, come back to Bikeforums, and past the whole thing into the message. I think that works because the TinyPic "message board" URL already has the code for "IMG" in the text that you are copying.

I think if you 'publish' them to Photobucket, they are limited to no larger than 800x600. Anymore, most modern monitors will display that without the need to scroll.

If the picture size is less than 100k you can use the "Manage Attachments" feature below the Reply dialog box. Click "Manage Attachments", then locate and upload the photo that's on your hard drive. Then click "Submit Reply". The picture will then appear like the one below.

On my AOL browser, the insert images icon does not do anything (it does work when I sign in under IE). If I am in AOL mode, I just type in the [img] . . . [/img] manually.

BikeArkansas:

The reason your wife's picture didn't appear in the forum is that you posted a URL. The URL is a link to the web page and will appear here as a link. The little yellow button with the mountain inserts image tags - [img] [/img]. If you have a direct URL to an image (right click on any image on the web and select "view image) you can paste the resulting URL for the picture into the text box that appears when you click on the image button. Tiny URL and Photobucket give you options to select the IMG tags with the approaraiet URL already included. Here is what happens when you select the IMG code tags for your wife's picture and paste that into your post:

I had forgotten about the "Manage Attachments" option. It's a good option to use to post one picture quickly. I think if one is doing a ride report, for example, with several photos, it is easier for the reader to see the photos embedded in the story and not have to click and open each one. The photos can then be in chronological order and in the right place in the story.
