Rode double my age 3 times when I was 50 starting with my birthday and ending with the day before I turned 51 last month. Not sure how long I will be able to keep that up, but I'll see if I can throw down some 51's before this month is over.

The nearby MUP is only 29 miles long, so there and back is my current age. I've done that ride a couple of times lately, but my birthday is next month. I'll have to add a random mile.

Rode my age yesterday. It's a 52 mile round trip to work and back (by bike due to a river crossing). As the crow flies (or drives a truck) it's quite a bit closer. Now that the mornings are cool I will see if I can get in one a week through October.

I started riding 3 days after my 50th birthday at the end of May. I've logged just short of 1,500 miles, including 6 rides over 50 miles. Speeds ranged from 16.12 on a 71.5-mile ride with a lot of rollers and a couple of steep climbs to 18.49 on a 73-mile ride last weekend. The century is coming soon.

I worked on my 58th birthday back on 6/19, but I did 60 miles on 6/14 and 91 miles on 6/27. Either one of those should count. I did my 'twice my age' ride on 7/10 with 120 miles.

Just did this again on Sunday (for the umpteenth time).

We rode to Malibu Creek and back along Hwy 1 from Mugu Rock. 50 miles or thereabouts in a bit over 4 hours. It was a beautiful ride with a couple of scenic detours. (One through Point Dume - woof there's one mean hill in there.) We saw 4 or 5 dolphins swimming along the beach just outside the surf zone and some smaller critters that looked like sea otters feeding in some kelp beds. Along with a few thousand birds of varying species. Quite a few wave rats (vermin of the sea) and many many bikini's.

It was a great ride and we got home before dark, which is unusual for us, due to the low miles. Took my mom out for dinner after I showered and changed afterward.

Civil War Century on 9/12/09 out of Thurmont, Md. It was 105 miles with 7200 ft of climbing. Time was around 6hr 15 mins and the route took us through 2 battlefields-Antietam and Gettysburg. I turned 57 just a couple days before. Several other 50+ riders joined me for my Bday ride!!

If I could have added just 9 more miles I could have continued my string of double Bday rides but maybe another year........

I turned 50 today so I'm finally old enough to post here. I put on my 50+ jersey for the first time, saddled up and headed up the coast to Carpinteria. 12 miles out I got a rear flat. Put in the extra tube I'd thrown in my jersey pocket and got ready to inflate. Why is the valve stem so short? Wrong tube! Dug my other spare out of my saddle bag and got back on the road.

10 miles later, I'm on the shoulder of the 101 freeway and my bike feels strange. Front flat! No more tubes so I have to patch. Find 2 holes in one tube and one in the other. Get them both patched, installed one and stuck the other in my pack and got back on the road.

The rest of the trip went without a hitch and total mileage was 54.1. Longest ride ever. I'm getting Gatorskins for my birthday. Wish I'd gotten them before the ride.

I just enjoy riding. I don't worry about mileage. It's been a great month to ride, the weather's been warm and dry. In fact today's the first rain we've had this month! So I haven't been visiting BF much this summer since I've been out riding.
This month, I've ridden 3, 60+ mile rides and 3 rides that are within 5 years of my age(I'm 57). Hopefully at least one more day of another good ride. Although, all rides are good!

17 days until I ride 57 (or more) but at least 57. The countdown has begun.
Starting to plan out a route but I just may go out and ride and ride and ride. Turn here turn there go where ever who cares.

An easy way is to just ride 29-30 miles from the house or your starting point.......then turn around and head back.

I rode the Lighthouse Century in San Luis Obispo today, but not the 100-mile course because I haven't been able to train properly. I can't seem to get any midweek rides in once school starts - especially towards the beginning of the year.

Anyway, my bike computer just rolled over my age - 58 - as I rolled into the parking lot at the end. The official course distance is 62 miles so I guess I could claim that. Anyway.....

It's a worthy goal to ride my age but not that tough. I wonder how much longer that will be true. I know that I see lots of guys much older than me riding centuries. I hope I'll be like them in a couple of decades.

Road my age in centuries so far this year. Turn 60 in November so I wanted to ride 60 centuries for the year. Hit that a couple of weeks ago, 64 so far after today. Problem is stopping! When I used to coach cross-country and track I'd lecture the kids every May to run all summer: "It's easier to stay in shape than to get in shape." So here I am, afraid to quit doing centuries lest I have to work back up to it later. It has gotten me into the best shape I've been in since I had to quit running 6 years ago after an L4/L5 rupture.

Rode my age + a mile to make it a Metric too!

Age:61.5
Ride: 62.6 miles - Details below.
Bike: Moto Immortal Pro
Date: 10/10/09
Ave Spd: 18.4

We were in Orlando visiting friends for the weekend. Took the opportunity to do a club ride with the Seminole Cyclists. Took off from Winter Springs and rode 13.5 mi to the meeting point in Lake Mary. Rode with the "B+" group. After the club ride was over I had to get back to Winter Springs. Rode around the block a couple of times to make it an official metric (62.5 mi or 100 Km)

Managed to set some personal bests. 1. Highest Ave speed (18.4 mph) for a ride over 20 mi. 2. New max speed record on the flats (30.8 mph, broken today on a solo, 31.4) Also, it was my first "quasi official" Metric, in that while it was not a "sponsored" metric, I did do exactly 100 km. I've actually ridden more before, (66.4 mi) but I wanted this to be a real "metric century"

This is my 4th age+ ride this year. I'm pretty happy considering I started in Feb. Looking forward to my first "Birthday Century" in Jan. It will be good prep for the MS 150 in April.

Roughly 150 miles back in May for my 50th birthday. Rode to the check in and volunteered the checkin as usual for the Salt Lake Century (for which I got to do the ride gratis, and it is the only supported ride I ever do) did the Century plus the Antelope Island bit, and rode home. Might have been only 147 miles. Anyways, I was pleased with myself, as it was the most serious ride I had been able to do since I was mauled by a pack of dogs earlier in the year. Working in the 3rd world has its little downsides.

To be honest- When I get to 72 I will be happy if I can keep riding- any distance.

Used to do lots of long distance riding offroad till The Bypass. After that it was a problem just doing 5 miles but forced my self back into riding although it did take a few years before I got the serious distance back again.

But I can still remember the first 10 mile ride after the bypass. I knew then that providing I could just keep riding- I was going to be fine for a good few years
