Enlighten me about my Look pedals.
Hi all. I'm new here and this is my first real post. I was a pretty dedicated bike junkie back in the 80's and 90's but have been away from it for over 10 years. I still have the first generation Look pedals that came out a few decades ago. They are great pedals but I am looking to get new shoes. What has happened, if anything, to the sizes of these pedals with regard to fitting a pair of shoes. Are the hole sizes and everything still the same?

I flip a lot of bikes on Craigslist and occasionally have some old LOOK pedals for a while. I found they work fine with the same cleats that work with newer LOOK style pedals. I expect the three hole spacing has not changed.

Yep, classic Deltas from way back.
They'll also work on the Shimano PD-7401 pedals, too, if you happen to have a set of those lying around.

Just be sure to get the Delta cleats and not the newer Look Keo cleats.

Hi gadabout55,
Just to help summarize (since I still use "old-style" Look delta pedals). New shoes are still compatible with the old delta cleats. Depending on the age of your Look pedals, you may need to buy black, non-floating cleats. The red (floating) cleats are NOT compatible with older Look pedals. The new Keo cleats are NOT compatible with ANY of the delta cleat pedals. The original Shimano pedals (not sure about the model numbers) are compatible with black Look cleats only. Shimano SPD pedals are not compatible with any Look cleats.
Since this question comes up periodically on many of the forums, I've been searching the internet for a list of Look pedal models and cleat compatibility and I have not found such a list yet. If anyone finds one let us know.

Thanks for the additional info. Excuse my ignorance, but what is meant by "floating" cleats? I don't think that term existed back when my pedals were state of the art. (I still think of them that way.)

Float is a little room your foot can twist back and forth before they unclip letting your knees have some relief.

When Look came out with floating cleat pedals the replacement red cleats originally came with a piece of paper indicating which pedals were compatible. I have never tried using red cleats in old pedals but perhaps the compatibility issue was whether or not the cleats would provide float not whether or not they would lock into the pedal. I still have some of the 2nd generation white pedals in the garage. Maybe I'll give it a try.

These are the pedals I used up until about 5 years ago. When they came out, red cleats hadn't been invented but they work fine with them including the float.
