A Few Miles on the Katy Trail with pics

This year during my vacation we went to Iowa to visit my mother-in-law and pick up some furniture that my wife inherited. I had wanted to ride on the katy trail for a while so we stopped on the way home for a short ride. We did not go very far because we had a load of antique furniture in an open trailer covered with a huge plastic tarp. I didn't want to spend more than one night on the road. In hindsight we should have stopped on the way to Iowa and we could have ridden farther. We got on the trail at a nice little park very near where the trail crossed under I-70. I was plesantly suprised by how small and well packed the gravel was on the trail. On my bike I had 700 x 28 tires which were just about perfect. My wifes bike had 700 x 23's which were okay but a little skinny. We are definately going back someday and covering some more of this wonderful trail. Here are some pictures.

Rochport. I think that's one of the prettiest sections on the Katy.

The big bluff in the second photo reminds me of a particular spot on one of our local rides. Really nice. Thanks for the photos and the tip on tires. I was wondering if 23s would work. Sounds like I might be better off with 25s if I get brave and go up there.

Rochport is correct, I had forgot the name of the town. As far as tire size for the section we were on 25's would be fine. I think if it rained it might get a little mushy and you might need something wider. If you Google Katy Trail you can find tons of information and recommendations.

Rode it in 2005. Wow - what a ride. Best to go west to east
: wind + small declivne, but still nice either way.

I am going to ride this next week with 2 friends. We are taking the train from Washington MO to Sedalia and starting from there. To Rocheport the first day, 51 miles, to Jeff City the second day, 32, to Hermann the third day, 42, and then to our car in Washington, 25, I think. Nice, pretty easy days, stopping at some great towns with great wineries at night.

I did this as a supported ride in 1998 going from St. Charles to Sedalia. this time will be on our own and west to east. It is ever so slightly downhill this direction. I'm not too good with posting pics, but will try after we get back.
