In reference to what?
That many wives think their husbands act like children?
That I make my son go see Prince Charles with me?
Or that Stapfam enjoys dressing up as "Bananaman?"

Yeah, it was quite a scene. We had to install nets all over the house to catch them. Eventually, it subsided.

That's what I was visualizing. Nowadays they would have to call in Hazmat.

Well, we are supposed to be Empty-Nesters; if only. They leave home then keep turning up with more! They have all left home but now I have a 4 year old grandson to look after three days a week - best job I've ever had! Take a tip - have your grand children first!

All seven of mine plus a step-son are gone. The youngest is 29 and the oldest is 41.
Too bad none of them are cyclists.

I don't wish for them to be gone, just all their "stuff." When they leave for school, bag and baggage, I feel like I can dance around the house with all the extra room. Or ride my bike down the hall, as it were.

I have one burgeoning cyclist. That's my boy!

Wow, not an encouraging data set. My older child has his college degree and is (moderately) self-supporting and out of the house. My younger child is in her last year of college. She shows few signs of independence but a lot can happen between now and next June! We hope. We are talking about down-sizing but the economy is what it is and existing home sales are not what we would like. On the plus side, both of the kids are avid cyclists!

Never had children, but the aloe plant is still at home. It does not seem to be much into cycling however.

I know my son will, too. He already emailed me and told me he has realized that children are 1,000x cuter when they have a British accent.

We don't have any children at home. We have four boys, ages 32, 26, 22, 21.

The 22 year old has come home the last three summers as he has interned with TxDOT office here in our town.

The 32 year old came home briefly, in 2002, after he had to drop school when his reserve unit was called up. After returning from overseas he stayed home briefly before going back to college.

We always figured we'd work to put the first two through college and then the last two would come along back to back and just break us. Things have worked out pretty much as we thought they would.

I have a boomerang kid. My daughter (23) has returned from college and is living here and teaching at a nearby school. It is nice having her home. My son (35) lives within walking distance. I provide doggy day-care to his Golden Retriever. His wife is expecting, due in March so I will be a grandfather soon. All the joys of a new baby and none of the responsibilities.

Yes - my goal was to down size 3 years ago but that has not happened. In any event, my daughter and I had the tough discussion - since we had told her to think about it 7 months ago and then again last month she was mentally prepared and it went well - she was mad but did not yell, slam doors and walk out of the house. If she was not working or was in a difficult situation that would be one thing, it just seems she can't take that next step. We will put the money in her sisters college fund.

25-year-old son (Purdue grad) several states away and 21-year-old son has one more year at Purdue. He's stayed up there the last couple of summers and would seem to be gone for good. We'll see about that. We still maintain a bedroom for the boys.

31 year old son set out on his own when he as 19 or 20. 35 year old daughter is still with us. She is a quadriplegic with cerebral palsy and will likely be with us for some time.

After reading this thread, I'm feeling pretty good about how all four of mine who are over 17 (actual all 24+) are out of our house and on their own. I'm pretty worn down from holding a stressful managerial position for many years and raising 5 children. I'm not sure I could handle one or two of them moving back in. I need a break.

Three sons 18, 22, and 26. Oldest two moved out without going to school, just ready to get out on their own. Middle one finally went to tech school and has just started working in very good field. He is back home as work is close to here. Oldest switched careers and has moved back home and is back in school. Youngest has just recently left and is away at school. I expect within a year or so we will be down to zero at home. They didn't exactly following my plan but things seem to be working out okay now.

This is a great thread. I have really enjoyed reading some of the posts. However after doing so I really feel old, my daughter is 45 and my son 44. Both are out of the nest now and have been for some time, so it is just the wife and I.
Ron you look to be the closest to me with a 41 year old

I am very proud to say that my middle two (twins) just graduated from college. I am not so proud to say that they graduated from the University of Florida. That's not so nice to say, I'll admit, but this time of year I come to realize, again, that UF fans are the most obnoxious, self-centered, and hard-to-take football fans around. Especially this year.
