Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes

Did a 52 mile out and back on this trail and it was wonderful. Sorry no pix yet, just take my word for it if you are in earshot of this trail, do it. Wish we had more time to ride the length. Although I did not rub it in it is comforting to know you are in way better riding shape than your kid!

The amazing thing is it is all paved! 72 miles.

Yes, a lot of people will be riding a section of this route during this weekend's Tour des Lacs. I won't be riding this year, but this is one of the nicest organized rides in the Pacific Northwest. You start in Spokane, WA and you take one of several routes to Harrison, ID. From there I think you can ride the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes or ride along the lake or take the ferry cruise and drink beer and look at the scenery (what I've usually done when I've taken a partner on the tandem), ending up at Coeur d'Alene itself. On the second day you ride back to Spokane along a scenic route past some lakes. This ride has got to have some of the best food stops around. The only problem is it takes most of Friday to get to Spokane, and then you're driving back on Sunday afternoon/evening. A long drive if you're on the coast, but you feel like you've been somewhere, and the ride is worth it.

Thanks for the tip on Tour de Lacs. I've wanted an excuse to get over there for a ride - I think I found it. I can't do it this year but will put it on the calendar for next year. It's really a beautiful area.

Looks like a good choice for the next 50+ annual ride.:thumb:

PERFECT! However, please make it during summer vacation, for us teachers. (My second whining post on this topic.)

Tho' I'm not a teacher, I second that notion..... depending on the typical summer temps in that region.
