Dressed ready to ride; a smart action; back inside

This evening it was drizzling; but I had to ride - anyway, fully dressed -took a while, went into the garage, and thought it necessary to reposition the saddle half a mm... Turned the respective bolts loose and turned them tight again. Too tight.... and managed to strip the bolt Back in again. "Anything wrong?" the wife said. "Yes", I said - "you married a dumb ass".

Repositioning the saddle just before a ride is not a good idea- unless it is really necessary. But have to disagree with your comment to the wife- but can think of easier ways of getting out of a ride.

I hope that it was the bolt thread and not the interior seat post thread?

Either way it is likely the mount will be damaged at the attempt of the removal.

Don't be too hard on yourself. When I got to the age of 25 I realised that I had done some pretty dumb things - including some that could have killed me!

One of the best I did was to separate a plug from an extension lead using a screw driver. I was about 18 at the time. The extension lead was still plugged into the mains at the time. And my degree was in mathematical physics! Doh.

And at the 220 line voltage you have over there I'll bet it was quite the flash!

I'm pretty sure that anyone that's worked around electricity for long enough has a shortened screwdriver or a set of side cutters with a big arc burn in the jaws. I know I do.

I did some contruction work a few years back, I worked for this one guy doing a basement remodel.
During demo, I cut a 2x4 stud from one side, with out looking at the other side, and sliced a wire in two. The guy I was working for gave me the "You dumb ass!" look, didn;t yell, scream or holler. Ok Fine, I should have looked, sorry for the extra work.
Later that day, I was doing something and had my back turned to the boss, all of a sudden I see a flash, hear a "ZZZZZZZZZ, POP, 'YEOUCH!'". I turn around and see the boss on his ass his feet in the air, and he is still going! After making sure he was ok, I had to ask "Maybe you want to turn the breaker off now?"

VESOPKING - I'm just impressed that at this time of the year you're still riding in the Netherlands. Surely, it must be cold.

Actually it is rather nice weathe...r-especially today-about 12-14C - That's to say, tomorrow it will be a bit colder. And when raining it is not all that great. But heck, I am not supposed to melt.

Even more impressive is the 240 line voltage I'd expect they have in Derbyshire.

Missed the important point of this posting---You only have one bike? No N+1 yet so you know what to ask for when next at the LBS.

Excellent point Stapfam. We all missed it due to nodding our heads in agreement to the "You married a dumb ass" part. Who in their right mind doesn't have two or three spare bikes waiting in the back of the garage for just such an eventuality?

The fear of a last second failure of this sort is why I always ensure the inventory never falls below 6 bikes for more than a day or two.

And just what does "you married a dumb ass" translate into over there?

Basically the same but I tried putting a couple of gentler expletives in and they get censored.

But if vsopking only has one bike- I don't know whether to pity him- or agree with his statement.

Now how do we get N+1 past his wife?

Hi guys, yeah I may think about a back up bike after all - probably a mountain bike. But what's wrong in having only 1 bike (apart of course that I f..ed it up once). Next day however, I fitted some new bolts and was riding again. Eventually, I may end up with 2 bikes but probably ride the main one only. That said I added up what I spent this year on gear, my LBS rolls out the red carpet when I am coming in!
