Rough riding for the winter.
I've been looking out for a Bike for someone I know that wants to elevate himself from Riding Mups with the kids to getting dirty offroad. He is a mate of Pete- the neighbour I got out a couple of weeks ago. Haven't had a great deal of success in finding one cheap enough but have a Free-Bee turning on this weekend. An old Claud Butler Mountain bike- 18 speed and rusty. I have been told its ridable but I have my doubts.
Problem is that I now have two "New" Riders to train in the art of Falling off.
So it looks as though I am going back to my roots for the winter and Mountain biking. It's a long time since I had novice riders out with me and I am not looking forward to it. I going to have to find the routes that look easy but just have that bit of a challenge in them to keep them interested. If I take them up our normal hills- they will just wear out the shoe leather so it look like I am going to be in Abbotts Wood for the next few months. Nice wide trails- gentle slopes and a bit of a slippery surface. Only good thing about it is that Once they have had enough of their riding- I will be able to carry on and do a bit of technical stuff While they find the "Tea" hut and recover for their ride home.

I know how you feel. I've repaired bikes for neighbors and friends who want to get fit and want to ride with me. Sadly, the enthusiasm doesn't last. I hope your friends do better than mine.
Good luck with the Claud Butler "rebuild".
