That #%^&! little vBulletin icon is wearing me thin.

See it there in the lower right corner? About half the time when I mean to scroll down, I hit it by mistake and up pops an ad for something I'll never use. The value of name recognition has long since shifted to negative, a possibility of which more advertisers should be aware.

Once an advertisement begins to irritate me, I refuse to consider purchasing anything from that company ever again.

  1. Use Firefox instead of IE or others.
  2. Install the Adblock Plus add-on
  3. Right-click on the vBulletin icon
  4. Choose, Adblock Plus: Block image...
  5. Do Not choose the preselected pattern. Instead, choose the one above it, http://www.bikeforums.net/images/new_vbulletin_4-BR.png. (See image below.)
  6. Click Add filter
  7. Done.

I've also used it to remove the gradient graphic behind the text in the thread list, (http://www.bikeforums.net/images/gradients/grey-up.png).

I also use the NoSquint add-on to make the text black.

What tsl said. I haven't seen that pesky ad since I blocked it with Adblock Plus.

It is annoying.

Not quite as annoying as the new system refusing to remember me half the time though. I've had to login 5 times since the new software went on-line. I don't remember logging in once in the past year before this. It keeps forgetting me.

I have to log in every time I access from work, but at home it always remembers me. Maybe I should just stay home.

With fond memories and we really had some good times at the wake too.

As for the adblock, DON'T use the auto-selected "images" choice. Use the first one at the top of the list instead. If you use "images" it will block avatars and every other image from the forum in addition to the V-bulletin ad.

What is really telling about this change over is the lack of regression testing they did. When I managed a large software group if I had not check compatibility with earlier versions of user interfaces I would have been handed my walking papers. So far I have tried 3 different browsers and it is buggy on all three. When I did some web development back in 1999 I had a computer with 3 different size monitors and every version of browser used at the time, if it did not look good on all these I worked on it until it did - then I released it to the customer. Nobody gives a crap about quality anymore.

+1 Cyclinfool - The pallet choice is particular a problem with notebook computers which are plagued with poor vertical viewing angles. If I don't have the screen at exactly the "right" angle the white text is almost invisible against a very light gray background

tsl--Thanks, thanks, thanks! for posting those instructions about changing font color, adding NoSquint, etc.! Have done that to this and other sites and the changes rock! I thank you and my eyes thank you. Would not have known how to do that without your post! Kudos, man!
