Final ride with the Austrian Triathlon Team - a Metric
In case anyone was following, or even cares, I had a 3rd and final chance to ride with the Austrian (NOT Australian) Triathlon Team. There was about 15 athletes and 2 coaches here from Austria for 6 weeks to train. Of course, we had the coldest winter in 20 or 30 years, but they got to ride most every day.
A girl from our club is a PT/MT and was one of several local therapists retained to massage and treat the team. She arranged for several rides with the team, and I was fortunate to be able to do most of them. Today was probably the last as they leave on Friday, and the weather is a bit iffy for wed and thurs. And I do have to do some work sometime.
Anyway, last Sunday my club rode in the Tour de Cure - Broward to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The team did not ride, but we hosted a post ride bbq at my house, and invited the Austrian team. We had a great time, and the other members of the club got to meet them.
During the evening I was talking to a few of them and they said they wanted to ride 3 hrs on Tuesday. Well it worked out that I could ride, and the forecast was great. We met up at 11AM and took off. I took them into some new territory and we had a great ride. I ended up doing a metric plus a few miles.
I'm sad to see them go, as they are a really nice group of kids. I'll be looking to see how they do in the 2012 summer Olympics!

As it turns out I had the chance to do another ride with 2 members of the team, Tomas and Dominic. It was only and hour, and I already had an hour in solo doing HR intervals. I took them on a tour of a nice riding area. They said "I wish we had known about this 6 weeks ago!"
Anyway, we returned to the hotel and were joined by several other members of the team, and one of the coaches. 3 members of my cycling club, CSP Express, also joined us. We took off heading south for a 2.5 - 3 hr ride, but after about 3 miles it started to rain. I was about 2 miles from home, and I had a lot of work to do, so I decided to bid the one final "auf Wiedersehen." This time for sure. They left today to fly home to Austria.
Here is my ride. The first 16 miles of the ride was my solo. We did about 20 mi together before I split off. Turns out the weather cleared and they all enjoyed an additional 40 miles. Had I hung on I could have chalked up another metic with them! Oh well.
