First bicycle-related injury--Need cane or walker now.

Well, anybody with half a brain knows that it's risky as hell--out there completely unprotected from speeding steel monsters passing within inches, "driven" by ******* with a cellphone in one hand. a beer and cigarette in the other, boombox blaring, license suspended (what license?--We don't need no steenkin' license).

Now I'm paying the price for knowingly indulging in such a risky pastime.

It's finally caught up with me.

Heed my warning and don't let this happen to you!

In semi-dark room, pulled new Easton EA50 seatpost out of Jenson shipping box. Seatpost slid out of stiff plastic sheath and fell 3 feet, landing on end on top of my bare (this is Hawaii, after all) foot. Heavy bugger @ 288g. A weight-weenie consideration worth noting.

That's ok, in a month or two I'll be back out with the traffic, where it's safe(er) . . .

Carbon seatposts have both less weight and more round corners. This knowledge is probably something more important in your past then your present.

In the future you may want to think about how much more pain can be inflicted by a dropped cassette or crankset.

Get better gimpy.

It's just another danger of shopping on the Internet -- if you had supported your local bike shop, and let them do the wrenching for you, this would have never happened. The Internet - very scary place for old people.

Never mind helmets. If the government gets wind of this, they'll be mandating steel toed shoes in the home.

So was the seatpost scratched?

Bodies heal on their own. Bikes have to be repaired.

Look on the bright side- You now have a few weeks of cross training as you hobble along the trails.

The first rule of opening any package is to be seated when doing so. That way whatever falls out has a shorter distance to fall and will do less damage.

Pain heals,
Chicks dig scars,
Glory is forever.

However, none of this applies if a Fred drops a seatpost on his foot.

I've yet to have a close call on the road but I've almost fallen off my trainer a time or two. Now that would hurt.

Thanks for the support, Guys--

We had a beautiful day today after several rainy days--just too nice to stay in, so I hobbled and hobbled and then limped and limped, and now it's almost like it never happened.

I feel very furtunate, since when I wrote my first post on this thread, the only way I could get around was by hopping around on the good foot and clinging to furniture along the way.

Having been reintroduced to pain, I ordered a helmet today . . .

Perhaps off road body armor might be in order as well?

Steel-toed flip-flop SPDs would have prevented that incident!
All those stories about carbon fiber exploding when dropped are a myth . . .

You got me good on this one. I was expecting a horror story of a different kind. Pain is pain and no fun no matter how it's inflicted.

BTW-On which Hawaiian island are you residing?
