Lordy, Butt bones
I posted a little earlier today about having ridden further this weekend than I have since hurting myself a while ago.
Anyhow, I'm now riding again and really enjoying it, just 150 miles so far since crashing in late October .... but....but..... butt
Same old Selle San Marco, companion for many longish rides, a few centuries..
But today, it seemed to have an attitude, punishing me about 4 months off. I guess I'll have to buttgrind it into submission
Or buy a comfy saddle sofa cuiser. No. Couldn't bear that. Guess I'll buttgrind on. It's not meant to be about pleasure, after all, no??

I've taken a few weeks off in the last few months, and the butt bones get sore for the first week or so back on, but then it stops. I use the standard low end saddle that came with my Trek 5000, even though everyone else whoever bought the bike replaced the saddle right away, but it works for me and that's all that matters. Time and practice seems to cure the problem.

The butt pain when getting back on a bike after an extended layoff has nothing to do with improperly fitting equipment and everything to do with conditioning.

Odd, to me, that this topic comes up. As I rode my new bike yesterday, I was wondering how comfortable the saddle would be at longer distances. This in turn, had me wondering if it is possible for a saddle to become over time, er..., "butt-ground". ( However the words I was thinking were, "molded to my form" or conversely, could my form mold to the seat, that is, adapt to the saddle.)
My old bike had a comfy saddle, so it wasn't a concern for me.

I rode with my son yesterday for the first time since last fall. As we headed out the driveway he said, "Hey, Dad, my butt is only up for about 20 miles. I'm just getting back into it since this winter. My 50 mile butt is a few weeks away yet."

Oh, haha. Well, I had that MTB snowstorm picture up and now it will be - rather IS spring so I thought a happy bright picture would be more appropriate. plus this is the bike I use for joy rides in nice weather. This is the other avatar I was telling you about.
