Good news is I was home when the FedEx lady made the delivery. Bad news (but not bad enough to dampen my elation) is - different FedEx lady.
Today I installed the headset, fork and wheels so now it's a roller and starting to look like a bike. Everything is just a little bit different from a diamond frame bike and, being it's a fremeset, there aren't any assembly instructions. The threadless headset, for example, doesn't use a top cap and starnut. Insted there's a dual purpose part that clamps the handlebar riser to the steerer tube and also contains a pair of 36mm threaded nuts that tighten downward to preload the headset. Simple and elegant once I figured it out.
Doesn't look like my Magura hydraulic brakes are going to work. For a reason I haven't figured out, the front caliper doesn't want to fit. The rear caliper will fit but there's an issue with the hydraulic hose routing. I have a nifty set of red DX V-brakes that match the bike frame. I'm thinking they'll solve both issues and provide more than adequate the braking power.
All my front derailleurs are the wrong clamp size. I thought I had a shim that would work but it's too clumsy looking so I ordered a simpler one. That'll take about a week but I can ride the bike without a front derailleur.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll get enough done so that I can try out the riding position. I also need to buy new batteries for my camera so I can take a picture. It's supposed to be 29 and rainy tomorrow so the traditional garage door photo doesn't look too promising. Goofy work schedule tomorrow so I'll get an extra hour between routes to work on my new bike. Yipee!
