Does anyone else NOT look at crash pix/videos?

Not meant to slam those who do....but whenever I see a thread about some horrific crash video, etc. I just move on. Maybe because I've had a couple of them myself? Am I alone in this?

Tom Bombadil 03-23-10 06:42 PM

I never do. Won't even watch horse racing accidents or nasty football field injury replays.

I did post a crash video here a few months back, where a politician ran a red light and hit a cyclist. But only did so because the cyclist was not seriously injured.

I also do not slam anyone who does post them, as no one forces me to look at them.

cyclinfool 03-23-10 06:45 PM

There are a lot ot threads I don't bother with but there are some folks who post where I look at their contributions independent of topic

The Weak Link 03-23-10 06:45 PM

I look at them. It serves me as a reminder why I shouldn't get into racing.

Retro Grouch 03-23-10 06:48 PM

I pretty much don't watch ANY videos. To me the time it takes for them to load and play is too disporportionate with the entertainment value.

All the cure little jokes that are circulated endlessly via emails, I also pretty much delete them without opening.

If you send me an email, it's best if it has a topic listed that attracts my interest.

I look at those pictures, but I never open any thread that has the word "prostate" in the title.:twitchy:

I'll watch racing crashes but not those on the street. If I raced, I'd probably enjoy neither.

kr32 03-24-10 03:15 AM

I do watch but the funny thing is when I am driving and there is a accident scene and everyone is rubber necking I will not look, weird but true.

+1 I don't tailgate cars six inches away at 20 mph, so it seems illogical to do it clothed in only a bit of spandex for the reward of a ribbon, trophy, or ranking on a website.

akohekohe 03-24-10 04:21 AM

I like watching the videos on the cyclecross forum and mostly it seems you win those races by being the quickest to get going again after you crash. However, almost always, the injuries seem to be pretty superficial even if they are painful.

Jamesw2 03-24-10 04:59 AM

I watch the crash videos and study the pix to learn from them. A series of pic came out where the riders went around a pile of racers in the middle of the road. Most of the ones that tried to go around the pile also fell. One even went into a barbed wire fence.
So I took a note to self stop and walk your bike around obsticles.

No - I shouldn't - damn, I can't resist...

How about if it has the word "viagra" in the title?

That's exactly what I thought when I watched the last crash sequence. So yes, I plea guilty.

Allegheny Jet 03-24-10 06:20 AM

I watch them, it does bother me a little because I started to race three years ago and that could be me in the images.

However, while in college I took a break during my senior year, from year round training for track and field, to run back punts and kicks for the football team. That's just me, most folks might avoid catching a punted football while 11 angry men were attempting to impress their girlfriends by taking my head off. My head is still attached and I impressed a certain foxy co-ed enough with my evasive skills that she is now my wife.:thumb:

Or you could go watch a few criteriums. I certainly don't want to see crashes, but I've seen one about every other race I've attended.

And yes, it does serve to remind me why I don't do pack racing.

Kojak 03-24-10 01:57 PM

I've had enough of my own tribulations. Don't need to see others.

My worst crash was during a race, and someone had posted a video of it on youtube; very surreal. It was a nightmare. Didn't want to watch it, but couldn't help myself as I tried to dissect who the numbskull was that caused the melee. I was able to determine who effed up, but couldn't figure out if it was an honest mistake, or if it was a Robbie McEwen wannabe. If it was the latter... good to know that I broke my hip so this @## monkey could get 11th place.

Haven't looked at crash pictures since...... except for the funny youtube video where the guy is coming up to the finish line, raises his hands in "Victory".... the victory that someone else took while he was trying to pick his bike up and get back on.... priceless.

love2pedal.com 03-24-10 08:42 PM

I watch them. Kind of creeps me out but I still do it.

That Jens Voight crash in the '09 TdF I watched several times to figure why he went down and couldn't see anything

rumrunn6 03-31-10 09:51 AM

no you're not alone. I don't watch everything that comes my way. almost everything, but not everything. I usually am hoping to learn something to keep me and my family safe

:lol:Well it's good to see you got the Grouch part right. :notamused: Just kidding:50:

Velo Dog 03-31-10 08:53 PM

don't look at 'em because I don't care, not because they make me squeamish or anything.
Well, there's one kind I DO look at, if I know they're available: when the pros in the Tour or other major race have a big pileup, I'm always impressed at how many of them are able to scramble on top of the bike and ride it like a sled until it stops.
